Hello Chengdurens! We are opening a Western restaurant in the next few months and wondering what expats are craving! We have been in China for over 5 years and do have our wish list of menu items, but always welcome ideas. While Sichuan food is absolutely delicious, eating it daily takes a toll on the body! Take a minute and write any items you think can be made here with a little creativity. We will have a foreign chef to implement any good ideas. Any drink items are welcome too! All posts are appreciated!
I’d really like something that’s not just American style food. Like a legit Mexican restaurant, or a reasonably priced and authentic Thai restaurant (I know that’s not Western, but I want it anyway!). I’d most appreciate a foreign restaurant that doesn’t just have a handful of interesting menu items, but is something really different. The Sultan (Turkish food) did a good job of opening a restaurant with ethnic cuisine that wasn’t already in Chengdu.
Just my opinion. If you’re serving sandwiches, steaks and Western breakfast you’ll have a lot of tough competition unless you have incredible chefs or recipes.
Charlie, Thank you for your suggestions! When we say “western” we DEFINITELY want to do some Middle Eastern dishes, Mexican dishese, Thai dishes, etc.! We are going to offer an international menu, but not a 20 page book! Having specials will help us expand the menu nightly.
We are not looking to copy menues already here. No steaks, no breakfast…Authentic and healthy is our main goal. Of course, balancing costs will be the battle.
if you know what element fresh was like in Shanghai before it blew up, that might be a good concept — fresh healthy as organic as possible. look and see what kind of organic sourcing options we have in chengdu …. oops did i just come up with a post idea?
