Buying Meat in Chengdu

Hi! Does any1 have suggestion about buying nice raw beef steak in Chengdu, I am looking for some tenderloin maybe, its alright to buy a whole loin and cut at home, just not into those thin cut rib-eye in supermarket, thanks!

You can go to Qing Shi Qiao area fish market – there are lots of meat shops in the side street down there as well as within the fish market area itself. You can get them to cut steaks to your liking from the part of the animal you prefer (for the most part).. I think there’s a meat porn thread on here from ages ago with some photos..

I was down there today (QingShiQiao) and in a freezer at the place I buy kilos of bacon, found sides labelled “Angus” from Washington. I’ll find out whether it is tomorrow night 😀 Attached images of the package, the sliced bits o the package, the steaks semi-fridge-thawed, and the thickness. You can of course set the thickness — I did so myself, because “thicker” resulted in a tiny adjustment which still left them paper-ish thin.

Without haggling the price was 85/lb, they of course have local reasonable looking sides at half that. Maybe this is just deceptive packaging, but they do have a lot of good import stuff..so here’s hoping. The price still results in a better deal than what you will get at Auchan…with custom cuts and hopefully much better quality product.

Ito-Yokado? or Taobao

Strongly suggest not buying *meat* on TaoBao. Ito has great RIBS.. they do have good quality import steak, however they are thin and extremely expensive, like 150rmb/ea isn’t really worth it to me for a thin little tbone.

青石桥 is the spot for steak, cheese, and bacon. I’ve also seen really nice salmon cuts there, but haven’t tried buying any.
