This Saturday at Machu Picchu the movie club returns with Blazing Saddles, the 1974 Mel Brooks comedy satire. Nominated for three Academy Awards, Blazing Saddles stars Gene Wilder, the 83 year old actor who famously played Willa Wonka and passed away just a few days ago, at the beginning of this week. The film satirizes the racism obscured by myth-making Hollywood accounts of the American West, with the hero being a black sheriff in an all-white town. It is a famously controversial film.
