Muscle Activation is awesome, definitely one of the most overlooked techniques for improving function in human movement and strength. I’m not such a big fan of the Swiss Ball, unless it’s being used by the like of these guys who have a good understanding of function. Commercial gyms love to sit fat ladies on ’em and do lazy ass shoulder presses!

One of the most productive disciplines I’ve used alongside my training has been Pilates. I’ve owned a reformer in the past, so I can vouch for the strength and stability it promotes if you stick at it for a while. Whenever I’ve trained anyone for strength or condition, I’ve always tried to apply it’s principles in movement. I can’t wait to have my spine barrel show up next month, that thing snaps my entire spine back into alignment in seconds.

Honestly, it’s a phenomenon how these guys all look like carbon copies of each other, not to mention how pissed off they all too often appear to be. Without getting too bro-tastic, I do love that someone like Phil Heath has come into the sport of bodybuilding, it’s been a mess for a long time from the douche factor. He might be a scary monster to most, but he’s a smart guy who’s wholly dedicated to the sport and pursuit, and I dig that all the way. There’s nothing tougher than bodybuilding at the elite level.

This scratches the surface of the seedy side of bodybuilding. I met so many of these douche bags on and off the circuit (amidst some awesome folk) I couldn’t stand it any more. Their facebook pages are usually filled with millions of pics of themselves taken with their iPhone… ALONE!!

That guy looks ridiculous… my Japanese friend brought me to a gym in Richmond California today (just outside of Oakland) that had a lot of guys huge like that. Most were wearing chains, New Era hats, skull caps, etc while lifting weights. No white people except for me and 300+ lb guys were all over the place! It was interesting.

His name is Andre Galveo, one of the top bjj fighters in the world today. The stuff he does on the balance ball is specific for bjj/mma. He is about 5’9 185 (prob walks around 210). The stuff he does here is advance, so dont try it at all.

I saw something like that last weekend at a BJJ gym in DC. Really crazy to see that kind of agility. I met Fernando Yamasaki (Mario Yamasaki’s brother) too. Very nice guy.

I do the same thing, well back in the states, i rarely do it now because no time and no motivation.. My ball is sitting in my living room now asking to be bounced on heh. I also do muscle activation, bjj ball training and Marinovich Training Systems. Not for growth in muscles but rather stabilized muscles, core strength and explosiveness. Great for the back and great for flexibility. I taught my students about the ball stuff and they have improved greatly; from their bjj form, balance and all has a mean knee on stomach to break a dudes jaw on the street!

I think they’re “keeping the peace”. I’ve seen a few articles over the last week about major unrest in Tibetan areas. This one from the New York Times is a couple weeks old but sums it up nicely.

Also, apparently China just fired 3 Tibetan Officials for failing to crack down on unrest.

Shanx Ray!!! Sometimes people dont understand from where im coming from, heh. If they read my posts they will see what i mean. But yea, when this stuff happens, i invite those to come to the BJJ club and get all their ‘anger’ out on me in person (i dont really hurt people, esp my bjj students.. My instructor is known to break limbs if one purposely injures another teammate, hence i’m docile.. ish). Maybe im doing a schtick to get people to join the club 😉

So yea, i will go to Le Sud again on Sunday, to get an explanation. To close this thread on ‘somehow’ I made an attack on Le Sud… And also try other entrees…. With a Margarita pizza! (im such a fatass!)

Bad rep? Quite the opposite. Infact i mentioned the ‘women’ stuff when he said legendary, he did not answer what he meant by it. Minus the lexington steel part. And i was with my brit bud there, we were both wondering what he meant. Julien also mentioned the badminton club, so it was not a hostile/bad situation. And it wasn’t a secret hush hush thing, then that would be different. Since it opened 3 hours earlier, it only adds to their favor! Bad rep is the Shamrock, attack me on that but F that place.

We talked for a few minutes, introduced ourselves and what we did. He said i can promote bjj at his place if there was an incentive, so its mutual. But what would you think if someone called himself/herself legendary (around here)? This only adds to his aura. If he is great buds with Charlie, then he is legendary status that provides a pub (great selection of drinks.. And i saw Jameson!) and wonder fresh cooked food items. Regardless, he has a great pizza.

Studied at University of Connecticut, BA in anthropology.. A worthless degree, well.. At least it wasnt an Art degree (truly a more useless degree, sowwee to offend those heh). Was prez of the break dancing club, Grappling club and chess club for 2-3 years… Yea my grades were crap.

So on some nights, i made Grappling (bjj) and bboy club meet on the same night/place. One on side, people were doing windmills and head spins, while the other were people breaking limbs, fun times!!

So today was an good day. Just got back from the city, had to call it quits from venturing, because my camera, with the photo of my address, died, and had no way of communicating on how to get home.

So the taxi ride from my place is about 100 Yuan to get to bookworm. I wanted to check out the local ‘expat’ areas, but only bookworm popped to mind.

Review: Their service was good. Minus the communication issue (still good in terms of Chinese/English communication), everything went well.

Couldn’t go onto their wifi. Bookwormbookworm password didnt work for me. I guess it was my laptop.

I ordered the burger with the side of bleu cheese. I guess cheese is a commodity and expensive. The burger was OK. In terms of US bar joints that sell burgers, its a few steps below. The meat was very tender. Wanted to order medium rare, but they did not have that option. I guess a burger is a ‘burger.’ Since the meat was very tender, i only had to judge it on that standard.

Their fries were good. Not sure what oil they used, but it really taste ‘fishy.’ I guess they use the same oil that fries fish. Hopefully they dont use the same oil everyday without cleaning it…

Overall, ill give it 7.5/10. Their ‘special’ sause really made up for the tender burger. Still would rather have a med rare burger…

Wanted to check out Mike’s Pizza, but couldnt find it. Man i wanted a large pie…

And added note, the bank near bookworm really have great service. They helped me out emensouly! Without their help, i would have no way of getting home AND was able to exchange USD to RMB. Got 6.3 per dollar, good rate. Props to them! Ill be opening a bank account with them soon!

Still got to check out other areas.. Still got to get me a large pie.. But the 30 USD round trip home is a totally debbie downer.

Does anyone know of any place to get a balance ball and a pull up bar?

And also want to check out the bjj club that Jamie use to run.. Though not sure if i can dish out 30-40 USD for the taxi cab…

Great day, now back to noodles… Pizza :'(
