Panda is the best venue in Chengdu for music and dancing, but not everyone wants to participate in all you can drink, every night.

Sure, 120 RMB is a great price for all you can drink. But I think the main complaint is that 120 RMB is too expensive if you’re not trying to get shit faced.

Yeah, I want to go to an all you can drink event maybe once or twice a year. And 90% the Chinese people I know get wasted after 2 drinks, so the value proposition of all you can drink doesn’t make much sense for them. I’m confident I will be able to get more people to Xiong Mao without the 120rmb ticket price. Although inevitably you will disappoint some heavy drinking foreigners, they are the vast minority in terms of Xiong Mao’s potential audience.

The 7-11 opposite Xiongmao is VERY happy about this. The good times will continue. A REAL beer for 5 kuai, anyone?

Remember the old days of Xiong Mao at blue Caribbean plaza when there was such as thing as PRE GAMING? Free entrance, buy a draft beer or two for 15-20 kuai and stash a flask/pint of qingjiu if you are so inclined.

I’m with Justin regarding refilling “kiddie” cup with awful beer every 5 minutes to feel like I justified spending 100+ RMB. Such binge drinking typically ruins my sunday as I wake up early, unable to fall back asleep and barely able to focus on checking my email let alone working on my novella.

Went to the “Three Musketeers” party last week, to support Jiong Jiong and we got free drinks behind the DJ booth cuz of guanxi. The place had a good turnout (free entrance on a friday) although despite the 60 or so folks inside the lounge perhaps only 8 or 10 of them were actually dancing or standing up to head bob to the rhythm.

What I fear is that the smaller style lounge parties attract a wealthy older crowd who like bottle service but won’t get up and shake their groove thing at 128 bpm. Then again, my co-workers are eager to come out to all the parties I talk about, but with a salary of ~2000RMB a month, they can’t fork over the high ticket price. Hope this a a turn for a better, but I do know that substantially less “dancy drunk” foreigners will turn up because they could save the 60kuai (roundtrip taxi) and get another 3-6 beers at jah bar/ lan town/ hemp house

the 120rmb price might have been worth it (to me) had the quality of the drinks been better. Even the custom “more more more Smirnoff” drinks taste like watered down piss. I’ve tried the “go back for more Tiger beer every 5 minutes” to get a buzz going and to justify the cost, but in the end I feel more full than ready to party. If the drinks aren’t going to get better, than I will more than welcome the ticket price change.

Pregaming on good stuff of my own choosing is the better option. This should undoubtedly attract more people. The heavy drinking foreigners will find another way to get shitfaced for cheap. The bottle service Chinese ballers are inevitable anywhere. Let them come, they’ll be good for business at the least.

By the way I’ve been told by someone the 7/11 across Xiong Mao had the biggest turnover ever in history of 7/11’s in China on the opening day of Xiong Mao. I can’t vouch for this though. Still a fun fact, even if it’s exaggerated.

Club 7-11 ! In the summer, that place will go off! Might not even hit Xiongmao, just Club 7-11. All the empty plush clubs in the vicinity will be pondering: “Goddamned that Club 7-11 ! What’s their secret?”

Basically echoing everyone else’s sentiments but I’m also pretty happy about the cheaper ticket price. With a nice cold 7-11 Asahi, trees in the zombie fortress and good tunes in Panda I’ll be set.
