I first visited Chengdu last summer of 2012.

I fell in love with the place for a lot of reasons.

so I decided to come back for a winter break from Jilin province and maybe try my luck hooking for a job (part-time/full time).

I’ve talked to some employers and they thought i was a native speaker until they asked me where I’m from.

    “Philippines”

I got tired of hearing this, “I’m sorry, we only need native speakers….”

but, I’m still hoping I could land a job here.

This is a tough one because most schools want either US/UK citizens or caucasians. So you have people from countries like Norway or Hungary who speak broken English but they can get jobs because they’re caucasian, or Asian Americans. But for Asian non-Americans, it can be tough. It’s unfair but that’s the way it is, from what I can tell. One option might be to offer private instruction if you can find students. From your post it looks like your English is very good – good enough to teach in Chengdu, certainly. Plus the headset you are wearing gives you a more professional air.

    Good luck!
