Planning a hiking trip to the mountains during CNY as the air in the city is killing me. Anyone interested? Any suggestions?

I’m interested – where are you thinking of going?

I need to work those days so i can’t go hiking but last december i went to kanding, taogong, amigomba, litang. The tibetan part of sichuan… and i loved it. The air is pure and you are able to enjoy the sun.

You will not be able to hike anything because it is so high that you get tired and dizzy really easy. BUT the views are really nice.

Nothing compared to this kind of “chinese hikings” like qingshengshan.

Emei Shan with a few temple stops or Qing Cheng Shan followed by hot springs.

I’ve got plans over CNY but a few of us go hiking some weekends, if you’re interested PM me.

Kanding and beyond are indeed great.

Mount Siguniang is good and nearer.

there’s even some pretty good hikes round Wenchuan, which is now very easy to get to

Songpan/Jiuzhai area is another option but like the Kanding area takes most of a day to get there.

Be warned going north west; the Aba area is often closed to foreigners.

it really depends what you’re looking to do and how much effort you want to make.

@ Charlie: I have in mind ” Hai Luo Gou” coz the hot springs is awesome .It’s a 3 days trip though, I was thinking of renting a car but I don’t have a chinese driver’s license. It would be really a pain to take buses 🙁

@ Chris: Qingcheng Mountain /Dujiangyan makes a easy day trip, Sounds good as well.

I know a driver with a mianbaoche who might be available. I can’t take a 3 day trip but I would be down for a 1 day trip leaving in the AM.

@Charlie : Mount Siguniang is about 5 hours away I don’t think you can make it a day trip. I have never been there and wondering how is it in the winter time

Right – in the case, I could work out a 2-3 day trip. I imagine it’s cold up there now.
