Travel from Daocheng to Shangri-La or Zhongdian?

My friends want to do a loop from Chengdu (where they’re with me now)–Kanding–Danba–Daocheng–Shangri-La/Zhongdian–Lijian–Dali–Kunming–Chongqing (where they fly out of July 5).

I read that Daocheng is closed March-July. Has anybody heard that it’s closed?

If Daocheng is closed, is there another route anybody is familiar with that isn’t closed from Western Sichuan to Zhongdian/Shangri-La?
