    @infallible star

I might be able to assist with a suitable solution for you.

My wife and I faced the same issue and only just moved to Chengdu from Australia after finding a suitable education option for our 5yr old son.

There is a new International school (which I now work at) in the East of Chengdu which is taught in a bilingual environment (English and Chinese). It is an I.B system teaching grades K-12 and also offers boarding for kids over 8yrs old. The school is a campus of Beanstalk International Bilingual School (BIBS) from Beijing where it has been operating for 24 years. There are 8 campuses in Beijing, 1 in Kunming, XiAn and now Chengdu. All our classroom teachers are experienced foreign teachers and the majority of the school management team is also foreign.

The campus is huge and caters for 1,500 students. It has a full size running track, swimming pool, soccer field, basketball courts and a 2 story cafeteria serving western and Chinese food.

We will open grades K1-G8 on August 22 this year and are offering some amazing discounts as we are a new campus. If you would like to come and visit the school, please add me on WeChat: BrentNW , or call: 8481 0088 . If the price is affordable for you then I think this will be a good solution for all of your children.

There is more info if you need it on our website bibs.com.cn

    Blocking contacts (spam text messages)

I didn’t know about this feature until I saw your comment. It’s the best update for a Chinese phone number! No more spam, woo hoo.

    The new control panel

It’s great for most things and really convenient, I just hope they make it customisable. Living in China Id love to be able to add the VPN on/off toggle and access to the music app like the old iOS.

I have made it crash a few times in the past 24hrs mainly using photos inside 3rd part apps. Overall I love new design. Its quite slow on the 4s but could just be because it’s a beta. Hoping they bring out a 5s when they release the final ios7. Havent been able to use some apps like Skype or KIK, they don’t open at all. Almost all other apps work 100%. It’s easily the best upgrade they have brought to ios. Im hoping that Mavericks makes my macbook look as good!

There are 3 well known kindergartens in the south that I know of. Golden Apple, Soong Ching Ling International Kindergarten & American Eagle Institute (not yet open).

I would recommend checking them all out before you chose one. I have just registered my son in Soong Ching Ling International Kindergarten & are happy with it so far. I don’t know too much about the other schools but if you want to have a look at that one send me a P.M.

Yeah the visa issue is an ongoing problem with no ‘easy’ quick fix solution (not sure about if your wife has other options). The most stable option for your family would be to get a Z-Visa (working visa) that your family can also stay here on. That means getting a job which is easy if you are willing to teach in Chengdu. If you need a job just PM me your resume. Shan Shui is a good service and have helped me out a lot but I have referred a lot of people to them and they just get told that there is nothing they can do to help so don’t rely just on them.

Be careful with the 12 or 24 month tourist visas, I had one last year and it ended up being a very expensive visa. The condition it said that we had a maximum of 60 days stay. That means the 3 of us had to visit HK every 2 months. So just check with the conditions of your country (I’m from Aust.)

Baby/children products are renowned in China for being bad for the kids health. We got everything we needed, which was all imported stuff, from Carrefore or Taobao. The only items we ever have friends bring us is medical stuff (Panadole, baby/infant panadole [tylenol], nurefen plus, etc etc). It seems impossible to find here and way overpriced on Taobao.

@Sascha – I have asked for the discounted price & I will PM you when they get back to me. They gave me a really good deal. Still a bit expensive but worth it.

@MikeV – There is no Shanghai school. It is Soong Ching Ling International Kindergarten which is different to the school in Shanghai.

The address is: SCL 成都园地址(SCL ChengDu Campus)

    成都市高新区锦尚西二路599号

@trudat – We live in the Tongzilin area and 90% of our friends that we hang with are locals so I don’t think it makes too much difference where you live.

Hi Mike, my wife & I have been living in Chengdu for 1.5 yrs and have a 20 month old son. The city is a good choice for a young family. It’s very safe and OVER welcoming! Foreign kids are like celebrities here. The cities very modern, good schools and lots of international food products available for young children (and adults). My son will go to Soong Ching Ling International Kindergarten next semester (ages 1.5-6yrs). It’s very expensive but it seems to be the best kindergarten in Chengdu from what I have seen. I can get you a big discount if you decide its a nice school otherwise you can check out Golden Apple, it’s another international kindergarten.

@Ray. I just went through the business renewal process on Monday at the new building. Was told there would be a lot of questions to answer because of the Visa crack-down so I was prepared for it. I was at the Visa office for about 15min total & no questions asked? Didn’t seem to be any different.

That being said, Im still waiting for my passport & new F-Visa to return from Beijing.
