Flying Lotus interviewed Kendrick Lamar on his BBC Radio One. Not sure where the interview starts – this is just a  link to the whole show.

If anyone has an idea of something that resembles the Dollar Shave Club in the US PUHLEAZE let me know I hate shelling out so much cash for razors.

What’s your price range? I’m sure you know, but it’s a tough market to compete in.

Yeah, I’d say best bet is the Clubhouse. They’re keen on showing what people want to see, from rugby to obscure soccer leagues to American sports playoffs, so this doesn’t seem unreasonable. They’re open Thursday to Sunday I believe, though, so if it’s earlier in the week a special request might have to be made. Not sure though. They’ll probably pop up in the conversation soon….

will I look like a crazy person walking around with one on? I don’t really care about how I am perceived, but I do want to make local friends (not just expats) so that is a concern to some degree. Also, I want to get an affordable home air filter and some plants — should I just do SmartAir and get those snake plants I saw mentioned somewhere on this site?

Don’t worry about it, man/lady. I also felt sort of self-conscious the first couple times I walked around with my mask, but if you’re clear on why you’re wearing it in the first place, you shouldn’t be worried about how you look. Think of it like wearing a helmet when you’re riding a bike: you’re not gonna look cool, but you’ll feel more at ease. And it definitely won’t stop you from making friends.

Where does the enduring love for Eminem ft. Rhianna – “Love the Way you Lie” come from?

I really really would like to hear an answer to this one!

Not that I know of. Maybe at one of the hotels. Someone needs to rectify this.

I’m not trying to be rude, but can you explain a little bit more why you are an authority on this topic? I know you are Chinese, but I don’t assume every Chinese person is an authority on Chinese culture like I don’t expect every American to be an expert on American culture. I really like this idea, I’d just like some more context on where your knowledge comes from.

As for my question: What is the longest-standing, most consistent element of Chinese traditional culture that still exists today, and why do you think it has persisted?

There are lots of Da Long Hot Pots (there’s one near me on Ke Yuan Jie off of Consulate Road) and oh man they are THE spiciest I’ve ever had in the city. Not just the bitch’s brew but also the meat they give you.

I know Dave’s Oasis on Binjiang Zhonglu (I believe..) has been doing something like this for a while. I’m actually writing up a post on meet-up groups in Chengdu, and I’m just waiting on the info from the poker meet-up before I post it. Stay tuned!

Try getting off at Nijiaqiao (one stop before Tongzilin), getting out of Exit C and walk down consulate road. You should see the consulate on your right, and continue on for a bit and you’ll start passing the Poly Center where all the real grimy shit goes down. Half-joking: it does get grimy, but there are some great parties going on there this weekend. TAG is having their one year anniversary which will probably be solid, and NASA on 19th floor is throwing a party this Friday which is gonna have some crazy visuals.

After 2 rides I’m on the Uber bandwagon as well. What is the biggest draws to Uber in my eyes?

A quiet car. Holy shit. I must have gotten used to the clamor of walkie talkies, receipt machines, and Dididache bells, because sliding into an Uber and being confronted with silence was a profound experience. Okay, I’m fudging it a bit, it wasn’t silent: there was classical music playing.

In a city and a life that is generally very in-your-face and very loud, it’s nice to get at least a temporary respite while you’re getting from one place to another.
