You must be logged in to view attached files.DevenParticipantHey I do film projects etc. here in Chengdu. If you’re in CD already and have your wechat working you can add me
wechat ID: dasdeven
-Deven
DevenParticipantYeah I’m also pretty sure that the stores in CD would have HK releases as well for games, or at least you can get them online/download via PSN. I’ve just heard bad stuff about the Chinese region PS4 games/console in general
DevenParticipantDo you have a PS4 now? You can buy a HK version in Chengdu for like 2200 yuan. I just got dark souls for my HK ps4 (in the store, not a digital copy) and the whole box was in chinese, with 英文 listed under languages and the whole game is in english. No issues at all so far. And you can buy HK psn credit on taobao
DevenParticipantFor a used one, I’d say 900-1500 is pretty good depending on the size/”newness”. I think new ones can run up to 3,000 but honestly I’ve never tried buying a new one. Those numbers are RMB not USD also haha
DevenParticipantsounds awesome. If you have/can download wechat add me on that (dasdeven) and I can add you to a few of the second hand goods groups in Chengdu
DevenParticipantWould you want to buy second hand? There’s always a few people selling second hand ebikes for good prices. You won’t really find any websites though. Why are you looking for a golf cart? Now you’ve got me interested haha
DevenParticipanti can probably put you in touch with some people. Add me on wechat if you want (dasdeven)
DevenParticipantHey man, add me on wechat (dasdeven). I try to do a decent amount of this kind of stuff as well.
DevenParticipantThe subway is the cleanest thing in Chengdu!
DevenParticipantYes you can, I use my mastercard from the US and it’s only a debit card. You don’t add the card to alipay. You just select foreign credit card when you go to the payment page I think. I’ll have to check again
DevenParticipantAnyone else feel like posting some favorite things/links on Taobao? I love hearing about stuff like this. Recently I’ve been buying a lot of food products like spices and nuts recently. Maybe we could start a wechat group for this?
DevenParticipantYeah Rafael’s stuff is really good! I know he also does some graphic design too
DevenParticipantWow this place looks awesome. Has anyone been here yet that can describe it a bit?
DevenParticipantYeah I know a lot of people that do the Uni route for a visa. And it well help with immersion as the classes are all in Chinese after a certain level (I’d demand to be in that level if I were you).
In terms of living in difficult situations, I think Chengdu is a nice balance because it’s less developed than Beijing or Shanghai, but it’s still fun and diverse. I’ve been in the same position as you before and I’m very glad I didn’t move to some place where I was the only foreigner or something like that. You can immerse yourself in Chinese here for sure, and actually enjoy yourself haha
DevenParticipantHonestly, the classes at the Universities (from experience and from friends telling me) are pretty average. That being said, the one semester I took at Sichuan U really helped me, but it was mainly from being very active in class and always talking to the teacher. The materials and class book is pretty useless. This goes for most Universities around China. They don’t get how to teach foreigners Chinese.
I’m doing some private classes now which aren’t too expensive and great for me because the class is really tailored to what I want to learn. I can explain more if you want.
As for immersion programs, I’m not sure of any in Chengdu but I know they exist. It depends on what you want to do with Chinese and what you want your living situation to be. I have a few friends in “smaller” places and it can get very lonely.
Hope that helps a bit!
DevenParticipantYeah man! Are you talking about a music video for a pre-recorded song, or like live sound for a band video? I’ve done a bit of both (MV for a recorded song is usually easier). I might have your wechat already but add me if not: dasdeven
DevenParticipantHey there! My friend and I have a video production team here in Chengdu and we can definitely help you with this. Add me on wechat: dasdeven
Here’s our film reel below:
DevenParticipantHey guys,
All the stuff is already loaned out and I’m back in the US. But thanks to everyone who offered to help!
DevenParticipantAwesome thread so far! When I have more time I’ll read all of it, but in regards to the chopstick thing “tragic” was probably the wrong word to use. I was looking at it with an American perspective for sure. For example, I would never say that using a fork and knife correctly are aspects of American (or any) culture, but I understand that eating and food are huge parts of Chinese tradition.
Culture is probably the hardest word in the English language to define and discuss, but I associate it a lot with creativity and innovation. I’m curious as to your thoughts on this with regards to modern China. Is there creativity here? Is it becoming more and more emphasized? Of course, creativity is another word that’s very broad, but from what I’ve seen having lived in China the last few years, an overall lack of creativity (or the encouragement of creative thinking) is one of China’s main issues.
