May 24-26: Beijing Great Leap Brewing Tap Take over @ The Beer Nest II

Great Leap Brewing operates three brewpubs in Beijing. It makes and sells a wide range of beers at those locations, popular both with the city’s Western expatriate community and younger Chinese drinkers interested in a more sophisticated product. When it opened in 2010, it was the first microbrewery in Beijing.

Come enjoy the great Craft Beers of Beijing Great Leap Brewing to support Harvest!

On tap (until we run dry):

    -East City Porter 燕麥墨啤
    -Cinnamon Rock Ale 肉桂冰糖
    -Prosperer 盛世啤酒
    -Hidden General IPA 不让舒眉IPA
    -Edmund Backhouse Session Pils 北京隐士
    -Rye Pale Ale #12 裸麦淡啤12號

All proceeds go directly to Harvest Brewing

Hi Guys and Thx for the support!

Geezer is indeed a splendid guy, always up for a beer & a talk, yet dedicated as hell. I admire him getting the craft beer to such a high level (an American even told me once: “This IPA is better than what I drink in the States”), though keeping humble and share beer knowledge to anyone interested.

He’s the pioneer and (silent) driving power behind Chengdu’s Craft Beer scene, inspiring young and old. Without him, good craft beer wouldn’t be as widespread available and way less specialized beer bars would have opened in the ‘Du.

Even though encountering lots of troubles, the progress he and his team made during the last years is awesome – from experimenting at home, to the 300l (bit nasty) brewery, to last year’s huge/ professional new equipment. Still remember taking a night train with him to one of China’s first craft beer festivals in Nanjing – what a weekend!

I’ve talked to Geezer today and he prefers to keep the donations centralized by buying the special Phoenix beer. Maybe we can organize some smaller local events. The Beer Nest is willing to dedicate a couple of kegs, though preferably on location.

“It’s always a risk to try something worth doing.”

    Interesting discussion ^^.

I’d like to add that competition or copy-cats (to a certain degree) might have positive side – in my case it makes me more pro-active/ putting more effort.

Let me add this times’ guest panel speakers (in addition to a 20 minutes presentation about the mentioned topic, the usual “idea pitches”, etc):
*Jason Wu, General Manager – Chengdu Lyceum MICE Co. [PR planning agency]
*Ellen Zhou, Assistant Marketing & Media Manager – Lan Kwai Fong Chengdu

Cheers and all welcome to join tomorrow!

    Hi Fran,

Can I plz ask where you’re from and how commercialized is Christmas in your country?

The Meet Up might not be totally what you think – we’re actually gonna discuss some of the topics pointed out by you (Xmas in Old & New China, the culture and business of Christmas, the 21st Century silk road, commercialization, strategies how different businesses tap in, etc).

    Some related reads:

    Kindly,
    Dieter.

    Hi Danny,

Actually the Chinese learn quickly about good beer in recent times. Except mainstream German beers, they only got access to lots of international beer brands the last years.

Sure they still have a long way to go, for example Duvel sells as much beer in China during a whole year than in Belgium during a few days (note that China is around 360 times bigger than Belgium). They also sometimes buy nice beer to “give face”; even yesterday they kept on adding ice to our draft IPA ^^.

    Cheers!

Hi and thanks for mentioning The Beer Nest Charlie.

We will have 2 big screens (Bar area & down) & a big TV upstairs, showing all midnight games & no problem for 3/4am ones if a big group notifies us in advance. The airco down indeed isn’t enough 给力; will have a worker check it.

There will be a special World Cup event with 5 free beers to obtain after most of the matches + a free 30 liter Belgium import beer keg for one of the earlier winners in the final [more info soon].

A screen outside would indeed be awesome, though unfortunately not possible cause of noise reasons.

    Cheers!

Wise advise which we should keep on reminding each other.

These trucks are indeed so dangerous, unfortunately often connected to “mighty” people who can make bad things disappear.
