    If you wanna work, just go do it, that’s how you handle it. Just be careful because technically it’s illegal for you if you do not have the work visa.
    If you want to get a legal job with the correct visa, you will have to do what your wife did. simple.

    Good luck.

    @charlie,

    Home school groups? I haven’t found any reliable info on that, got any thing?
    btw, how’s our expat ?back in america” podcast coming along? 🙂

    @jon
    ,

    Dude…Think long and hard about what you want to do and are trying to do and for what reason.  You want your child to have a good education obviously, but she can’t speak chinese (chinese mom?) and you can’t afford the intl school,  so what option does that leave you?

    If you can’t figure out a good option, why are you wanting to come?
    Might, possible, relocation? Not sure, unsure, contingent upon your current employer or? In china now? Wife needs to come back?

    There was another lady last year that had 3 kids, and wanted to come from the UK, husband had an “ok” job offer.  Similar situation like yours, just more complicated, and not very realistic and imo irresponsible based off of what they were trying to do, and their reasons for it.
    (Search the site and you can read her posts and all the responses, from what I remember, most were trying to get her to see reality? hehe.)

    I say this because I have kids and I have been here a long time and understand the issues pertaining to kids and educating them here and what they may or may not face, the lack of friends she can communicate with, will you be in the area of other families, will you have a vehicle to get around, your wife Should understand all these things, no?

    That being said, I have met a few expat kids that have picked up the language incredibly fast. A couple of the kids were at Meishi, you can check them out, cheaper than the others, and perhaps they have a program for non chinese speakers.

    Ha.

    If this is a Chinese School/Boss, I think the girl will be thrown out the window as well.

    And the farther outside of the big city, #3 will be thrown out too. 🙂

    @sharleen,

    No, I have not found a home school group, and yeah, the kindy at Luxe Hills cost some big bucks.
    There are a few preschools I think at Tianfu, per your other message.
    Off of jian nan and off of Yi zhou, at Yin Tai, many are “montessori” based, perhaps that’s the one your looking for.

    I think for us, due to our flexible schedule, we will just keep our our kid with us.  My wife runs an early ed program for 2 year olds mainly, so our girl will sometimes sit in there. For the rest of it, we just sign her up in some classes that she likes like dance or art.

    I’m mostly of the opinion that I’d rather keep her with us if I can’t put her in a place that I would have complete confidence in their quality of care and competence, and that from a western perspective.
    Meaning, we teach her a certain way to behave and speak, where as many others here think differently in the way a child should behave.

    anyhoo, i’m just rambling now.

    @charlie,

    great.

    @colin,

    I just watched a few of ur vids on FB, and was thinking if I should suggest ur name to charlie because I thought u had gone home. “until 2015”, u are back in china? That would also be very interesting.

    I brought up this subject because I keep going back and forth over this issue re: my family.

    anyhoo, will be great to read everyone’s stories.

    @sharleen,
    Thanks Sharleen, I guess my request is a bit difficult to find here in CD. I hear in Shanghai there are some home school groups that meet on a regular basis with many kids. That is what I am trying to find, or to establish. Perhaps an alternative is to see if there are any other like minded people with foreign kids around that would like this.

    Perhaps they are all sent to a kindy, not sure.  I don’t want to send my child to a local kindy so that is why I am trying to find some kind of group to provide an alternative.  I hear there is a waldorf around, but a long waiting list and expensive. I also know of the australian kindy by luxe hills, but don’t know anything else about it.  Logistics would be our main problem with that, since we also have a baby at the house.

    anyhoo, any ideas information or anything please keep us in mind!

    thanks!

    Thanks Holamt,

    But looking for a group that meets weekly or something, that has foreign kids in it, not to travel overseas or go to a summer/winter camp.

    Thanks

    Phil,

    Sounds like u didn’t do u homework, or u are willing to risk getting screwed over by the employer and possibly get in legal trouble with the govt.

    If your employer is legally able to hire a foreigner, then they would issue you a Z visa first and you would come over on that and then the school would get your work permit.

    Sometimes schools will use an agent or a company that will “sponsor” you, but that would mean that your particular school does not have the legal ability to actually hire you.  Or, as with many, they will tell you something that is not true, or you may agree to their arrangement, but technically you may still be working illegally, and thus could suffer the consequences of such action.

    What is the school? It’s possible someone here works there or knows the place and can give you some info.

    Instead of editing my previous comment, I will just add it here.

    The PSB in Dalian told our friend living there with the same situation as us, that children to a mixed marriage are unable to get a passport, just a “transport” paper that is only valid for three months. The children do not need a hukou for this reason. This seems quite odd.  Now checking with a local visa agency and will try the local PSB.

    Any updated info on this?

    One scenario that I know of is to get the B1 visa for the kids and wife to travel to America. 6 months at a time, valid up to 10 years. I’m sure many already are aware of this.

    I hear its easy to do, much easier than applying for the green card. Just need a hukou and passport for everyone.  If I stayed, the kids already have their passport/citizenship due to me…wifey would just have to apply and seems to take at least 3 years from a friend of ours in America doing it now.

    Anyone try this way in going home?  Also, heard that the kids don’t need a Chinese passport to leave, although the Guv considers anyone born to a Chinese woman Chinese by nationality, as Sascha spoke of. There is some kind of certificate needed. My guess is the Cancellation of Citizenship, which supposedly takes a couple of years?

    I think, as Rick mentioned, the problem would be when the kids return to China, probably couldn’t use their Chinese passport anymore, dunno.

    Does anyone have any recent experiences to go along with my ramblings?

    @Merior,

    Is the “family” visa the marriage visa or a different type of visa? And do u know what country the person was from that was deported?

    @ben

    I had thought that previously one could work while on a student visa, but had always been under the impression that it was illegal.

    Anyone up to date on the latest?

    And Ben, why did you pm email to find out how to report such a person? I am not interested in reporting anyone for anything nor was that my intention of this thread.

    Good Day
