I know Brendan has just found what he describes as a great gym near SM square…

The gym Ray mentions is ‘WorldFit’, and it might just be the best equipped gym (for serious lifters) in the city. Certainly the best I’ve seen, and I’ve checked out many of the new spots opening in the last year or two. Advertised yearly rate is 2699, of which I ended up negotiating in half. Whomever has set this place up is obviously passionate about what they’re doing. They’ve even got ‘Pumping Iron’ playing on repeat on one of the screens, which coincidentally is something that Gold’s Venice was doing last time I was in there. I’m a little disappointed there’s no 45 degree leg press, but with 6 racks and enough plates to sink a ship, it’s a small gripe.

Which food delivery places are you referring to?

Can you elaborate? Diet is where I struggle…

Without getting into specific companies here, one example would be the ‘Enjoy’ app, which highlights health related/conscious businesses in Chengdu (within a city selection drop-down menu). Restaurants listed might not necessarily qualify, but you’ll find food delivery services, gyms, and other such businesses offering discounts and trial offers.

How does everyone feel about those fitness trackers/heart rate monitors…

I picked up a Fitbit Charge HR a while ago, and while it’s wholly inaccurate for activities like cycling, and the sleep tracking is a little shaky, it does provide useful data on the basis of consistency. I wanted to start tracking my heart rate and use the data to track my recovery from training short/long term. This together with the sleep tracking has been extremely useful, while most other data (steps, calories burned, etc) is redundant. As long as you make use of the data and implement changes accordingly, these trackers are a useful tool.

Can anyone recommend a gym around the US Consulate, or the Yulin or Tongzilin area?

Best commercial gym in this area is the ‘Physical’ Raffles City location. The free weight area is a little small, but it’s a well enough equipped gym for most.

b-active is a convenient spot, but even the fact that they have 55kg dumbbells doesn’t redeem the insult that is their membership fee/s.

I want to bump this thread again and check in on anyone who’s still regularly working out in Chengdu. If you’ve been here for anything over 2-3 years and are halfway serious about fitness, you’ll have seen the landscape for gyms change significantly in that time. Many new commercial gym locations across the city, including a 24 hour option (b-active), and the gradual proliferation of CrossFit boxes. I’ve seen many private training gyms pop up in this time also.

Curious to know where (serious) folks are training, and how. Also curious to know if you’re using any of the growing number of health food services appearing in Chengdu. I’m seeing several food delivery companies that provide Macro based nutrition options. A far cry from the situation in Chengdu not so long ago.

Pretty sure there isn’t a cult of women in their 50’s meeting in the ‘restaurant’ for half a day. They even dress up for the occasion.

Can anyone recommend a good tattoo artist? Also how much is the going rate for a medium to large tattoo ?

More & more tattoo artists are appearing in the city, but the one I always recommend above all others is Jasmine at Fandu Tattoo. Her WeChat ID is: hanlujiao

She’s been tattooing in the city for at least 4 years now, with an impressive dedication to her craft. Over the last year or so she’s been honing a water colour technique that’s (as far as I know) unique in the city.

As far as rates go she charges either per hour, or fixed price based on an estimate of the time/ink the piece will take.

I think you’d have a hard time relying on food products to hit your B quota, particularly here in China. I’ve been using Puritan’s Pride B-50 Complex since I’ve been in China. You can find legit suppliers on Taobao, including at least one right here in Chengdu.

I’ve been to the breakfast buffet at the Shangri-La and I would go there.

This is probably still the best breakfast in the city for choice that I know of. It’s been reduced a little some time ago, but there’s still a lot on offer.

I’m curious to know what Element Fresh at Tai Koo Li are doing for breakfasts. The Beijing Sanlitun location is a spot I always end up at when I’m there on account of the great breakfast menu.

I forget the name of the chain store opticians that has a logo that looks a little like a turnip (or other vegetable) with specs, but they’re decent. I think they offer free lifetime service and clean on what they sell.

Check out EGG too, they have some decent looking frames (with lenses) at pretty low price points. I think the general pricing there is 380, 580, and 780 RMB per pair, depending on what you choose. Also ready within 2 hours. Both IFS and Tai Koo Li have stores.

Hi I am really sorry to be asking like this, I was wondering if possible anyone can help me out…

No, but you could simply sell a kidney and maybe even come out with some cash leftover.

    Good luck.

There’s another service where the driver rocks up on a folding bike.

I’ve used this service too. The fare was a flat 50 RMB for a 5-6km ride.

God bless development, progress, and all things that make sense.

Please let me know if you are interested or message for more details.

Thanks for pitching in here Jordan.

Carrying on from our meet recently, I’m considering a way to incorporate this (at least in part) into one of my spaces (Hongxing Lu). We already have conference/meet-up facilities set up there that can easily be modified. I’ll post here as progress develops on that over the next week or so. I’m personally more interested in targeting creatives, but that’s not exclusive.

We are making confusion and everyone does what he wants, not right way for start something together…

I think you should go ahead and do your own thing regardless. If that can at the same time (or at a later date) be in some way connected to what others might be doing, this is only a positive. Any inroad you or others might make is better than none.

    😉

Intentional umbrage-taking is a form of trolling.

    This feels like wisdom…

When did "trolling" change from subtly winding people up, to just being a dick? from AskReddit

It comes off as misogynistic and lack of respect for women and perhaps a contributing factor why this forum fails to attract diversity.

Bless you Hyo, I do see where you’re coming from, but in defense of Vincent (having known him for some time) he is the opposite of misogynistic. He does maybe spend too much time on the internet though, which makes him well versed in forum derived sarcasm.

Additionally I think the reason this forum has failed to attract ‘diversity’ is not quite so straight forward. There have been a few posts over the course of time that were knocked out cold by off track debate, which itself ends up alienating members/visitors.

    …and a serving of solipsism…

    …won’t help you understand reality.

We’re conjecturing ‘reality’ with our donuts now!?

    Here’s a reality:

Or we could go back to joking about how many donuts we could hang off our dicks.

    Yes, let’s do that, since;

    a) it’s a joke
    b) in the style of a reddit AMA
    c) devoid of any political, social, geographic, or gender specific intent (et al)
    d) plus it’s a

      joke

    in the style of a

      Reddit AMA

Had Johnny been a Jenny I might have come up with an equally crude question aimed squarely at his vagina since again (just for those of you who missed the actual point of this in the first place, because you stumbled into a time machine that whipped you back to 1986, when political correctness and not being able to form humour around any subject without catching wrath from some ages old beleaguered institution or club deemed it unacceptable, along with free speech) this is a thread

in the style of a Reddit AMA

Did we get a number for donuts hanging off your dick Johnny?

    Is it…

    5?

This and other important questions need answering, like ‘do ladyboys take turns’?, and ‘what if your Mum was your Dad’?

    Thank you for watching.

I am going to repost my ‘Reddit AMA styled’ question, as it appears to have gone AWOL…

    My question, a very serious consideration for any self respecting bachelor/donut maker is;

How many donuts can you hang on your dick?

I was initially thinking ring donuts (is there a standard gage of acceptable donut depth/rise?), but seeing as it’s your donut shop I guess you get to be creative.
