Well I tried Computer City (also realising that I’d walked right past it 2 days earlier!), only to be met with an already too familiar confusion from everyone in the place. I even had a text translator at hand, which seemed only to further confuse, suffice to say I failed to leave with a convertor!! I will prevail!!

I’ve trained professional level athletes in a formal life Charlie, along with prepping bodybuilders into shape for contest. I ran an independent gym in the UK for 3 years, and spent many as a serious bodybuilder myself, though never competing. I’m still pretty dedicated, just because I love to train, and as I get older my vanity won’t allow be to become a sad sack who once was!! I’m sure I could kick your arse into shape, though it wouldn’t be no skip through the meadows wearing daisy chains!! 😉

And tigerkuma you’re seeing what everyone with a training brain cell sees 99% of the time with so called ‘Trainers’, the big gyms being the worst culprits for this. Sadly Personal Training has become a firm fixture in the business model of these places, with emphasis not on client results, but number of sessions sold. If I want to I can become an accredited trainer online… Yeah right! It’s taken me 20+ years to learn what I know, and I’m still learning even today.

An absolutely fantastic site is http://exrx.net/

It has a wealth of information on exercise technique, function, kinesiology, mechanics, anatomy, and much more.

This is me a while back, just to confirm my non pencil neck status: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=254996&l=1528a28b69&id=662390425

Gotta love pesticides!! I tend not to use too much in the way of supplements, opting to take in a good amount of clean food instead. I do take whey isolates, but not in large amounts, and always with a good greens powder, psyllium, and essential oils.

It should have been fairly easy to identify poor whey, it tends to have a denser consistency, and will most definitely contain lactose, which will bloat you at the same time as causing congestion. I’ve heard all the stories of Chinese manufacturers shipping product with fake essay certification, so finding a good source is paramount. It might be worthwhile finding an Australian or NZ (preferable, as the dairy industry uses no hormones) whey source. I’ve lived in both countries for short periods, and finding good producers of product was not difficult.

Are none of the big US brands like BSN, Muscle Tech, Gaspari, or Optimum Nutrition available in China? GNC would be good, but I wonder what they would be charging for tubs of whey!?

I’ll keep you posted on what I find.

Oh snap! I’m using an MPC 2500, alongside Reason + Record. Still finding my feet with it really, not having had a solid length of uninterrupted time using the software, but it’s coming. I have Logic too, but much prefer the rack in Reason, the patching allows for some great sounds, even if Propellerheads do need to add some new reverbs (and a bloody graphic analyser!!). Did you update to 5? The Kong drum module is wicked, as is the 8 slot Rex player. I have some other gizmos too. Check my facebook: http://www.facebook.com/HzWerks There are some pics of my gear on there.

Some of your tracks remind me of Ninja Tunes artists like DJ Vadim. Love the whole Trip Hop vibe, I spent a few years entrenched in that back in the UK. ’97 was when it really started to flourish.

My company will pay for any expense related to the visa, I’ve just ended up doing much of the leg work in order to get around not having a degree. Communication has been a little slow, going in circles between myself, the employer, and the lawyer advising them. I also wanted to make sure I had gathered as much information from as many different sources about the process as possible. It’s all looking good right now, which means school’s still out!! 😉

I’ve been slowly getting back into it over the last year. Check my soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/hzwerks

Neither tracks (aside from the remix) are technically finished, but they’ll give you an idea of where my heads at.

Once I’ve got my bearings in the city, we will have to get together for sure. I’m very serious about bringing some d&b into Chengdu. I have a ton of contacts in the scene, and would love to see the masses getting an education in all things drum & bass!!

What about you Charlie? I read somewhere that you’re making music as well as spinning tunes. Where can I catch a listen?

Meeting up with you is high on my agenda Charlie. I’m shipping my studio out with me so I can continue to produce, and I’m definitely looking to spark some interest in drum & bass while I’m there. I’d already been thinking that if there weren’t any nights being held, I would figure out how to put something together. I knew about the Panda Club night before I’d met you on here funnily enough, only to then find out that it’s dead!!

I can’t be without my d&b!! Deep, dark, and heavy is how we like it!!

Yes, I’m hooking up with Nick once I land in Chengdu.

He seems to think I’ll have no problem, so it all looks good for now.

I did read the article previously. Very helpful. Nick tells me I won’t have to exit Chengdu while my new visa is obtained, which is a bonus.

I’ll actually be overseeing a construction project in the city Charlie, school’s out for me!!

I don’t know if the infamous Mr Wang is the guy I’m talking too, I only know him as ‘Nick’!

I’ve spoken to a number of agents now, and it appears that the diploma is not an issue, just an avenue for increasing the cost of a visa! I have a quote of 7500RMB for a 1 year Z visa at the moment, and I’ll continue to see if I can’t get that figure down elsewhere. I’m more than happy to pay this for securing a 1 year visa, though it does seem to be on the high side. And I’m not even American!

I’ll add any useful information to this thread as it comes, so hopefully others facing any visa related issues will have some points of contact.

    Hi Charlie,

Thanks for the response. I’m pretty well versed on the ins and outs of Chinese visas by now, but I’m really looking for information on how to obtain a visa when I may not ‘officially’ meet the criteria set.

I notice in another thread a Mr. Wang (FESCO) being mentioned. I’m in contact with an agent in Shanghai who is able to secure a Z visa for me, but it would be great if there was someone reliable in Chengdu to do the same. The crux of my situation is not having a degree certificate to hand, so I’m looking to avoid that requirement.
