Don’t know if this is of any help, but 6 months ago I had a CT (not MRI) done at the Friendship Hospital opposite the Jinjiang Metro Superstore. Upon request, they burned my scan onto a CD-ROM (or maybe it was a DVD). I don’t know if they can do the same for an MRI, but I do know that they offer MRI services as I had an MRI done there four years ago, but at that time they only gave me a film copy.

Just to second Coryg’s posting, I went through this procedure myself online at renzheng.cscse.edu.cn (although you still need to go in person to show them your original documents). I submitted my docs on the 12th September and received my degree certification by EMS post on the 13th November, so pretty much 2 months on the dot.

I took the HSK 5 a few months ago in Chengdu; the test centre is located in the centre of town just south of the Ritz-Carlton hotel and Chengdu Stadium.

That would clearly depend on which territory the client was in. The Americans amongst you will be familiar with the SEC. For clients in the UK it will be the FCA, clients in HK will be the HKMA/SFC … We work with expats in over 100 countries, for the sake of brevity I don’t need to go through them all.

I don’t need over 100 answers, I just need one: which regulatory body is responsible for resolving disputes between your company and clients who are expatriates resident in China?

In the event that there is a dispute between your company and one of your expat clients, exactly which regulatory body in which territory has jurisdiction to resolve the dispute and enforce a judgement?

They may ask for a passport photo the very first time you register at a particular police station, it just happened to me after moving house recently.

You don’t need 2), but it may help for filling in the field on the form for your school or company name and address, you can provide this information from memory; again this is only required if it’s your first time registration.

For 4), to be on the safe side, you need a copy of your landlord’s ID card, a copy of the apartment rental contract AND a copy of the first page of the landlord’s deed for the apartment, which proves that the landlord actually owns the apartment.

It may vary with which police station you go to, but the one opposite the Morgan Center at Niushikou definitely want a passport photo the first time you register (I did this 2 weeks ago); luckily, they were kind enough to direct me to a photography shop located behind the police station.

Back in Shanghai, I was fined RMB 500 for registering 2 weeks late. I’ve not heard about them enforcing the lateness fine in Chengdu, but it’s best to be safe rather than sorry.

Oh and you need to re-register every time any information on the registration form changes, which means every time after coming back from abroad (even for a short holiday), because you now have a new entry stamp and date in your passport.

The first time you register at the police station, you’ll need the following:

Your passport (and photocopies of the ID page, visa/residence permit and most recent entry stamp).

A recent passport photo of you.

    Your rental contract (and photocopy).

Photocopy of your landlord’s deeds for the rental property (just the main information page which shows the landlord’s name and the address of the property).

Photocopy of your landlord’s ID card.

    Your landlord’s phone number.

Name and address of your place of work or study.

Name and phone number for a Chinese-speaking emergency contact person.

You also need to go to the police station with jurisdiction over where you live, which isn’t always the one that seems closest to your apartment.

If I’ve left anything out then please chime in; I just went through this process myself a couple of weeks ago…

I just renewed my British passport last October.

Yes, you do have to go to the British Consulate in Chongqing in person, once to submit your application and once to collect your new passport, but you get to keep your old passport for identification purposes only (no international travel) until the new one is ready.

You can download the application forms and instructions from gov.uk. You will need to book an appointment by email to submit your application, but collection does not require an appointment. In my case, it took 3 weeks between submitting the application and receiving the email saying that it was ready for collection.

The single biggest pain (apart from having to travel to CQ twice to do this) was finding a photography studio willing to shoot the passport photo to the required specifications (light grey backdrop and specific dimensions for your face in the photo).

One other thing, collect your new passport as soon as they tell you it’s ready and submit it to the Chinese authorities for them to update your labour permit/FEC/visa/residence permit ASAP, as there is a time limit on this before they starting fining you; I found this out the hard way since my passport was ready just before the October holiday, but I couldn’t pick it up until 2 weeks later.

    Thank you for your advice.

Did your train ticket have your surname and given names separated by whitespace, or were your names all compressed into one word ?

Yes, Taobao are clamping down on the fakes…I used to get fake ec*o leather shoes (and size 46s too) for around RMB 200, but now postings for those only appear for a few hours before being removed.

Often they price the item as if were genuine, and then have Chinese text in the product picture that says they will discount the item down to the fake price after you add it your basket, but those ads don’t stay posted for long.

Since Taobao started clamping down, the same fake shoes now cost RMB 400, if you can catch the ad.

I’ve paid my Chengdu gas bill via taobao/alipay, just click on the water drop icon (bottom row, 3rd from the left) in the panel on the front page (see below), then click on the blue flame for gas, select the province and city from the drop down menus and enter your gas account number.

in reply to: How to Receive a Package? #44430

Some housing complexes have automated lockers for couriers to deposit packages. The lockers are watched over by cameras and have touch screen displays. When the courier deposits your package, the system sends a text message with a password to your mobile, just punch this password into the touchscreen to open your locker and retrieve your package. The service is usually free for the first couple of days but if a package is left for longer than 2 days then it will charge you around a kuai per day before you can retrieve your package. The system is called “SuDiYi” or something like that.
