I did approach people but then I’m smaller and more susceptible to damage than Pardhu. I got good responses simply by pointing to the camera, pointing at them and saying “ching?”. Suprisingly my best shot came from a posed shot by a labourer rather than a natural shot. I should have just concentrated on the faces and ignored the scenery.

@ Charlie – having said that, the text now appears to have corrected itself without me changing anything at my end like browser size. Strange because I treble checked the issue and even resized my browser to full screen to see if it made any difference – it didn’t.

The gripe with the log in still stands.

@ Charlie – take a look at the photowalk thread. Scroll to the foot of the thread and you can see there is a problem with text dissapearing out of the frame. Possibly the text window is bigger than the frame.

Also – trying to log in is still flakey, I can log in, get a Howdy welcome at the top right, go to the Forum and find that I am no longer logged in….. VERY frustrating logging in 5 or ten times before it sticks.

@ Pardhu – you were in Lonely Hearts Corner so he probably thought that you were a Private Detective working for his wife. But couldn’t you have asked him to repeat his abuse so that you could catch it on camera?

@ Eric – my text looks like a regular Helvetic/Helios/Ariel style type face in the a letter O forms a perfect circle and is not given the illusion of height by reducing the character width.

Perhaps your browser has preferrences that have been set to change the displayed text because I cannot see any large, tall (compressed) or overtly pixelly headlines unless I sit close to the screen. Change the zoom settings in the bottom right of your page is probably easy enough to resolve the issue.

Typeface too small??? I have my screen set at 150% for comfortable reading, perhaps you have yours at a higher setting and aren’t aware of it?

You almost certainly don’t have a ubend fitted. Go to somewhere like B&Q and they sell flexible downpipes that can be bent into an S shape that will trap a small amount of water to act as a barrier to offensive smells.

Alternatively use bleach or a toilet cleaner if you cannot find a specific drain cleaning product (B&Q again) but that is only going to cure the smell in your pipe, not the smell from your neighbours.

“Misleading”? Yes, not a fight – they just want people to go to Mianyang and get beaten up.

@ Rick – I registered another name, got a screen welcome for that name, logged out and immediately tried to log back in – failure. I suspect it is the nature of my VPN. I did try to contact technical support but that only worked so far before the report form locked.

@ Al the Dead – EVE looks potentially VERY good but I wonder just how much is due to slick advertising – sort of like a sophistocated version of ELITE. Are you still in your free trial session or now on a subscription? If on a subscription, are you using a VPN to secure the ‘UK’ rate or are you stuck with the ‘outside Europe’ rate?

@ Ian – Sorry to hear that you missed us. Where the dog handler in the picture was walking is roughly where we should have been waiting which was on the north side of the Square. But we were actually waiting on the pavement/sidewalk where the picture was taken from. Since that was roughly 20 meters from the designated meeting place we figured that people would still find us find us. We stuck it out for 20 minutes for latecomers but got politely booted off by the Police who were getting a bit nervous of our cameras even though we were trying not to take pictures of them. We then migrated to People’s Park out of the heat.

We will be having similar events and under consideration at the moment are ‘Night Lights of Chengdu’ (to avoid the sun) and ‘Ancient Town (or not)’. @ Rick. After many patient hours I’ve now managed to connect, register, download and install, however, it is impossible to log-in regardless of whether I use a VPN or not. I’ve had the ‘thank you for registering’ email and I have even tried resetting the password to be told ‘your password has now been reset’ or words to that effect but the login screen just reloads for me to try again. I suppose it’s possible that their password database doesn’t get updated until after the weekend but it looks like it’s another one that needs to be uninstalled.

    Now checking out EVE…..

Having serious difficulty whenever I try to log in now. How I managed to do it this time was just sheer persistence of trying again and again and again and …..

@ Emily – pretty girls are always welcome especially when they want to act as free models to pose for the lens. Better yet if they can carry some of my lenses.

    @ Pardhu – I expect nothing less.

@ Charlie – bring the guests and show them some of the city.

@ Slavsky – Just do it. If I can get permission from the boss to go out and play unsupervised then you should have no problem.

@ Charlie – reportedly no sign of any protest as of 15 minutes ago but plenty of police still waiting for that photo opportunity.

@ Slavsky – I just point and shoot subjects that take my interest. I prefer landscape photography but living in Chengdu now doesn’t encourage that. Having spent days of my life waiting for people wearing day glow orange anoraks to get out of the picture, now I find Chinese people make better subjects than the scenery round here. I am just an amateur but here’s the website (a work in progress):
