@Ray, hot water would help to get rid of the starch real quick. Drain the pasta, pour hot water over drained pasta, then repeat.

Welcome to CD and CL! I’ve been here for only 2 months but have been to all the Indian restaurants listed on the weekly English magazines about local lifestyle and so forth. Not sure if I’d recommend a specific one in terms of flavor, but you can be sure to find the major ingredients and spices(basmati, atta, channa, different kinds of pulses, chilli pepper, black mustard seed, cumin, turmeric, ginger, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, and clove…) for making a nice meal. That said, bring some with you from India as well, it’d grant you a smooth start in a new city:)

Quite a list up there. Wanda Sykes’s amazing indeed. Did I mention Ellen Degeneres?

@JerryS, oh my, but he was pretty nice and polite when I talked to him after his show in SF last year. Gotta check out Elliot Chang’s gigs. As to Mrs. Doubtfire, are you referring to Eddie Izzard? He’s pretty funny.

And generally speaking I think Chinese don’t like act differently, or not use to act differently.

Serious?? Then why all the hype about owning luxury goods to stand out, differentiating themselves from the others? Is it because the whole nation is following the trend blindly even if many of its people can’t actually afford it, and no one wants to “act differently”? Teenagers selling their kidneys to buy iPads does certainly not locate in the “normal” range, among many other examples. The point is that many Chinese nowadays strive for attention and try their best to “act differently”. Just take a look at China’s two most popular microblogs, Tencent Weibo and Sina Weibo, INSANE stuffs everyday!

Joe Wong is also brilliant. He has a unique style and his jokes kill! Although it takes some people couple of seconds to get it. Let me know if anyone needs a transcript for this gig.

    Totally agree with Ray.

I think the concept is inspired from the earlier trend of hiring fair-faced foreigners to join Chinese companies as fake employees and business partners. And there’s a popular term all over Chinese blogs called 剩女(shèng nǚ), literally meaning the left over women. “These women have passed their lawful marriage age and most of their peers have gotten married with child. Most of “剩女” have high income and high education and they are independent in nature. Sometimes they are called “优剩女” (yōu shèng nǚ) meaning the left over excellence.” So I’m not surprised that social media agency came up with this campaign. I find it kind of lame but well, maybe the Chinese consider it as “thinking outside the box”…It should gain some attention, hopefully not ending up being the butt of jokes…
