niklasParticipant
Xiaomi recently introduced a 28 inch model of their luggage. I got the small model, and just bought this big one as well. You can probably find an even cheaper one but Xiaomi’s luggage is insanely cheap considering the quality. Very spacious. It’s 499 RMB. Their deliveries are fast. If you plance an order today you’ll *probably* have it by Monday.
niklasParticipantOuch. I’ve never had to use Internet banking so lost the device long ago. Afraid it’s same for most people here. Can’t help, sorry.
niklasParticipantAre you sure they don’t accept Alipay(支付宝) for payments? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an online checkout that doesn’t accept Alipay. If it’s paid by money transfer then you could do that using an ATM.
niklasParticipantNot surprised. Beijing’s readings have higher peaks but in Chengdu we seldom have good air. Put together some average numbers for last year based on the US embassies readings in Chengdu and Beijing. Only did the first three months though. Based on the hourly readings. So Chengdu’s year average value is much lower… Perhaps winters are worse here than in Beijing, but summers are better maybe.
niklasParticipantHi! can I use non-Chinese bank issued credit card for Alipay?
I’m having issue adding any of my cards to my Alipay account.
Don’t know if you can link a non-Chinese card to your account or top up your Alipay balance with it, but you should be able to use it for doing payments.
If you’re here for a while I recommend you to get a Chinese bank card though. It’s easy and quick to get, very cheap and makes things more convenient.
You can also top up Alipay balance by phone card(China Unicom and China Telecom cards I believe, but double check) or by filling out a form and paying at Postal Savings Bank of China.
niklasParticipantWhen I went to Vietnam a year ago I automatically got a 15 days visa upon arrival I believe. Depending on your nationality and length of stay you might not need to apply for any other kind of visa.
niklasParticipantPerhaps slightly off topic but where can more info about Walnut be found? Might be interesting for people going to read a bit about in beforehand too. Been searching a bit but can’t find it online. Seems like this co-working space opened in August, but I can’t find a website for it or anything.
niklasParticipantSold this today
niklasParticipantI highly doubt there will be. The issue will be that there is no real incentive for developers to make anything for it because it will never net any revenue for them. In the case of the Apple TV it will also be difficult because the app store requires that developers add in support for the Apple TV remote which has the accelerometer and gyroscope. Hopefully it pans out but even that is a real gamble.
Yea.. I don’t really get the Xiaomi store. They do have a store with some free apps and games but very limited. Would be cool if they had a bigger store similar to the scale of Google Play.
I have very high hopes on Apple TV. But yea the remote is really tricky I guess. Will be very interesting to see how that pans out. Hoping it’ll be a great success and the Android world(including Xiaomi) follow.
niklasParticipantPretty excited about the hardware in that bar. The specs are better than the regular Xiaomi Box and previous TVs’ built in “box”, and the remote got microphone and motion sensing. It’s obvious that they’re competing with the new Apple TV. Hope there will be some cool games etc for it.
niklasParticipantIf interested in buying it you can contact me here or on WeChat: xiaoming_n
niklasParticipantHearing some bluegrass here would be so great. What kind of solo stuff do you play?
niklasParticipantAlso Xiaomi’s Hongmi Note 2 was released in August: http://www.mi.com/note2/
niklasParticipantA bit off topic, but since you guys also seem to be interested in Xiaomi products.. I read that there will some kind of keynote August 16th when Xiaomi Mi5 probably will be introduced along with other products. Anyone know if and where this can be streamed from?
niklasParticipantI recently found that Xiaomi have some kind of store in Chengdu nearby Auchan in the south. http://www.mi.com/c/xiaomizhijia/chengdu.html
Address: 成都市高新区盛和一路88号康普雷斯1栋1单元1309-1310号
Maybe you can check out the TV there.
niklasParticipantYou might want to just find a repair guy to take it apart, clean, and lube it. I’ve done this before to fix fan noise.
Oh, I had no idea you’re supposed to lube it. Makes sense. Thanks! I’ll give it a try.
niklasParticipantAny recommendations on floor fans from Taobao, JD or similar? My current one is a bit noisy, please let me know if you know of a quiet one. Some brand that do fairly quiet fans?
niklasParticipantBasically, my biggest concerns are:
1) PollutionYea it’s bad. Try to do what you can to not get exposed to it too much. Buy an air purifier or a few for your home, and if exercising outdoor consider buying a Respro mask from Natooke.

http://smartairfilters.com/en.html2) Food
What others said above. Chengdu is a much bigger and more international city now than it was just a few years ago. Lots of upscale supermarkets, shops with organic vegetables etc.[/quote]
3) Bad Internet
Get a good VPN subscription. Astrill is popular. It’s what I’m using and I’m quite happy with it.
4) Lack of quality gyms/fitness places
There are lots of gyms in Chengdu now. Quite good ones, I guess? Depends on your requirements.
niklasParticipant@Niklas; those solar lights, are they bright enough to light up a garden, or just kinda decorative? I need to replace my garden lights…
I’d say they’re more decorative
niklasParticipantI have online banking at ICBC. When my Alipay wallet was empty one day, I noticed the buttons for payment through the bank. It asked me to setup this functionality and somehow I managed to get through the screens, don’t ask me how. Now, if I pay something, it gives me both my wallet or my bank account as option for payment.
That’s really convenient. Today I managed to top up Alipay using my card, the trick was to do it through Alipay.com and not the mobile app because the app requires me to validate my identity first. I should do that though, maybe then I can also connect my bank account. Anyways really convenient to top up on alipay.com. Didn’t require me to use the banking device which I don’t know where it is.
