    Ah, delicious internet fight.

Allthough I have to say that I prefer two girls fighting.

Two attractive girls to be precise.

    I’ll answer without reading.

Because reading this thread will be my evening treat.

You find the attractive ladies at the excact same locations where you find them in your respective homecountry which is:

Everywhere outside the confines of your apartment.

The Mall, The Gym, Starbucks, Night outs with friends etc.etc.etc.

I’m going too. Sounds like they can pull off an intense live show.

An Italian Restaurant that serves Caesar’s salad and breaded chicken should be avoided at any cost.

I always wanted to have a travel agent.

    Sounds so good in conversation:

“I have to talk to my travel agent about this …”

“My travel agent told me that …”

Where do you download the BB episodes if you don’t mind my asking?

I liked the new Mad Men. Even more stylish than previous seasons and good character arcs.

    Don Draper is the man.

Who said all Chinese are dirty?

The problems is that the is not a big enough market in Chengdu to create the kind of quality level that you get in the first tier cities.

no market –> no competition –> no competititve standards of quality

In Beijing Ayi positions werent so highly sought after if the locals really thought that foreigners are ungrateful.

    Thx.

Dry aged is probably out of the question even via the email order.

I gave up and clean myself now.

    Too spoiled from Beijing.

I cant pay triple the rate compared to Beijing just for getting my stuff swiped with a dirty rug coming from a bucket of dirty water.

    Bump this.

Any news on a decent Steak in this town?

    What about Hotel restaurants?

Tony Roma’s had already closed down when I wanted to try.

    Hello,

First of all congratulations you are at the right place.

Lots of helpful advice from nice people also a decent database of interesting articles about life in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

    Police Registration:

-Depends on your type of accomodation. Initially Hotel will do that for you.

Once you find your own accomodation the real estate agent or the management office can be of assistance. Not too many english speakers though.

I assume your boyfriend will come with an expat package?

In that case things should be much easier as usually somebody will be there to help you with the first steps on everything.

    Other expats:

You will find them at the usual hangouts of which there are plenty and in a pretty wide range from ‘Paulaner Biergarten’ to ‘Hemp House’ (just to randomly name the two opposite ends of the spectrum).

Language Schools: I have to plead ignorance on this but the forum should have a lot of threads discussing this topic. I was offered language classes by individuals on the street. Not sure if that is the proper way forward though.

    Working in Chengdu:

Also here it depends what your boyfriend is doing. If youre in the same field his new employer might be able to provide you with helpful tips or contacts.

Also the German Chamber of Commerce has an office here I guess. Maybe try to get in touch with them.

What type of Visa do you have? How long are you planning to stay?

P.S.: I am German and you can PM me for more specific questions.

I run a branch here of a UK based design firm.

We are involved in a big cultural project.

Right now fairly small team (main workload in London) but potentially expanding towards the end of 2012.

    Drop me a PM.

Well my compound is quite new and “up scale”. No insurance against rats in this town it seems.

    Thank you for the input.

I am more than uncomfortable with handling poison myself.

I already see the rats/mice dying in my AC duct just waiting to get me really sick once i start running it when it gets hot outside.

I heard about the cat thing. Would be worth considering picking one.

Allthough I’m not a big fan of cat toilets.

I am so mad at the management office. Complete waste of space these people. They stare at you with disbelief that this could be somewhat a serious health issue.

“Emerald” in case someone considers moving there, dont think you’d be safe from rodents on the 18th floor.
