I recently acquired a “vintage” Forever Bike from Shanghai and I want to turn it into a sweet hipster summer ride.

    Single Gear not fixed.

Anybody know a good parts shop in town?

His family should have publicly apologized to the cab drivers and cab passengers family.

Instead they made arrogant and stupid statements to the press.

Hard to feel pity for them.

“She (The Wife) also didn’t know who the female passenger in the car is, even asking reporters: “Who is she?”

Well, ‘She’ is the common accessory to a sportscar worth 1.5 million bucks, lady.

    Brendan,

    Cool story.

I arrived from Hong Kong Sunday night.

There were two flights to Chengdu one with significant delay which I was booked on (Hong Kong Airlines) and one which was cancelled (Air China). It was all due to bad weather conditions in Hong Kong.

So at 11.30pm the guys from the Air China flight prepared to spend the night at the airport find out that the Hong Kong Airlines flight is flying to Chengdu that night and get really upset. They start to suspect some kind of conspiracy favouring the Hong Kong over the Mainland airline or whatever. So they are really upset. Some of them start yelling at the HK Airlines staff standing at the counter of our gate .

Then some people from my flight start laughing and gloating, five minutes later at least 30 people from both groups are engaged in a serious fist fighting (some put off their shirts) hair pulling (the females) screaming session. At Hong Kong Airport mind you. It was a very sad to watch. And it delayed my flight another two hours.

So then finally arriving at 3.45am in Chengdu (instead of 11.30pm) I find myself assaulted by taxi drivers trying to get me into town for 150 Kwai + to which I point on their meter which most of them refuse.

I end up simply sitting in one of the taxis with my luggage on the backseat and yell at the guy to start driving and dont start yelling until he turns the damn meter on. He is super pissed at me of course and drives me home at an average 40kmh on the airport expressway.

All was not well with my general impression of Sichuan that day.

So Rick. How do you find out whether somebody is simply after your Passport?

Maybe I’d tell my date that im planning to renounce my citizenship and become a proud citizen of the People’s Republic.

Great thanks. I just had my colleague try that as I am on an ANA ticket anyway.

So if you bring your booking confirmation and a copy of your passport they will sell you the voucher you want.

Local Chengdu number of their office:

    028-61687943

From a personal view it is very hard for me to even imagine a workable relationship.

I mean there is girls, well educated girls, fluent english speakers, working in good jobs, independent and super smart. But then on the other hand they are living with their parents, then they are on a curfew (in their 20ies mind you).

I find it very confusing and it kinda freaks me out.

And what i see around me in many commited relationships between western dude and chinese girl:

-The parents cant know about it (I know so many like this)

    -The parents dont approve

-If the parents approve they still control the life on the weekends

Not to discourage anyone, love is usually stronger than that. But I guess there is a massive cultural gap here. Its not only that family ties are still stronger here it is also that they work in entirely different ways.

    Supermarket checkout:

While I pack stuff into bags, person behind me checks out my stuff waiting to be processed by the cashier. Like picking it up and inspecting it.

This happened to me twice here in Chengdu.

    I mean, seriously ….

Shame. Ive already seen full size pool tables for 2000 kwai in chengdu.

Pinball machines do seem to be rare in China.
