I’m in DaZhou right now and they were dancing to the godfather of soul (that’s James Brown for you kids) last night. A surreal Chinese moment….

Just an update on the new gym at Raffles. I’m hearing October 18 as the opening day.

Need: 1.passport 2.photocopy of passport and latest visa 3.sometimes they ask for a copy of your rental lease. My lease is a verbal agreement, so they asked for landlord’s phone number and called her.

I believe it was originally scheduled to open in August, and I was told “about two months more” back then. Im hoping it opens soon cos it’s also in my neck of the woods..

Physical will be opening a second branch in Raffles centre very soon. Word is that it’s gonna be bigger and better than the ifs one.

@Coryg: is this gym part of a hotel? I asked at IFS and they told me the only gym is Physical, on the 6th floor, which I attend.

Thanks Peter. I did buy it here, in the Motorola Chinese website. The disadvantage is the inability to use apps on the Google play site

The crossfit shouldn’t be too intense. You’ll probably find people walking in and out, and of course checking their cellphones pretty regularly. There’s nothing wrong with that. Crossfit is evolving from the “puke and we give you a free t-shirt” mentality of a few years ago. It’s a good thing….

@Dan: I hit this place a few nights ago. Kinda nasty, greasy Pizza Hut style pizza. Ok in a pinch as a guilty pleasure, but as soon as it was finished i had some personal recriminations: “why?! Why?!

Re: pizza: just noticed a new pizza place in Yulin on Fang Cao Jie called Pizza4U. Google reveals it to be an international pizza chain. I’d never heard of it but will give it a shot tonight. While I’ve had my issues with Mike, he does make a mean pizza and he’s only 5 mins (cab) away, so this new joint better be pretty special to compete…

Ha ha I’m more of a Mothra man myself but much respect for using the clip from The Thing. Absolutely a masterpiece. Kurt Russell was in sensational form in the early 80’s….

@RickinChina:it’s a tough call. If it comes to an issue of safety, I’d rather not take the chance. But I hear what you’re saying about the enormous mark-ups on some products. Protein powder is a good example; the mark-up on brands like ON/Syntha/Muscletech etc. is huge, but these are trusted names and you know what you’re getting. But absolutely, if I could source some unbranded, legit stuff I would gladly hand over my money and say “I’ll take as much as you can get me”…

My homeland is a country not renowned for it’s strong work ethic (hint: it ain’t Switzerland or Germany). However, if one were to do what alot of the locals do here (ie. openly, brazenly sleeping at the desk/counter etc.) you could be pretty sure of getting an on-the-spot dismissal. The building where I work here has shared toilets for the whole floor. Doesn’t matter what time I enter the male facilities, but i can be assured of a cloud of smoke, all the cubicles occupied, the sound of newspaper/video games/movies. The receptionist at my company (god bless her, she’s a national treasure), can be relied upon to be surfing the internet, doing online shopping, chatting, basically anything but receiving (receptioning?). Working hard, or hardly working? 🙂

(and I admit, I understand maybe 10% of what this guy is talking about. Will be hitting Natooke shortly with a list of questions)
Things get heated near the end when they rumble over disk v. hydraulic brakes. Bike geek smackdown ensues…
