Yeah, instead of snow we get smog in the morning that makes the ugly obstructions disappear.

At the Sichuan University we use Hanyu Jiaocheng/ 汉语教程. The books are quite good, useful grammar, quite some exercises and some of them have answers in the back. On the back of the book they give a price of ¥34.

I probably have around $200 here and doing nothing with it. I know it’s not enough, but let me know if you’re interested.

Your paying per month for them to watch your bicycle? You pay rent.

It’s the place in my apartment complex, the people guarding it live there. It’s not one of those places they put on the side of the road.

There is zero motivation for those people to interrupt a theft seeing as they are not responsible to replace your bike if it is stolen

They just increased the price for expensive looking bikes from ¥5 to ¥10 per month. But yeah, I’m sure they won’t do anything if your bike gets stolen. She adviced me to buy a better lock and I should have done that earlier anyways. Do you guys have any good locks in the shop? I might come tomorrow afternoon after work to have a look.

This morning I went to get my bike at the guarded parking lot at my apartment. The lady (who’s luckily familiar with me) said someone tried to take my bike last night. The person said he was my friend, but of course didn’t have a key. From what I understood he tried to open the lock, but didn’t succeed.

It seems they keep trying new ways.

I don’t think you can send dvd’s abroad by post. They seem to check everything you send and all food products (incl. tea) is not allowed.

DHL or Fed-ex will probably do it, but you’ll pay a lot for it.

I never took a bus in HK, just the subway to the border and you can walk into Shenzhen. There are lots of busses at the border in Shenzhen I’m sure to the airport too.

I used to go for a visa run from Yangshuo (Guilin). If you arrive in Shenzhen early morning it’s deffinately possible to do in a day.

Just arrive at the visa agency (I went to Forever Bright too) before 9am. Then the same afternoon you can pick it up around 2-3pm. The bus back to Yangshuo from Shenzhen was around 7-8pm, so enough time to get there.

My classmate also had her iPhone stolen recently while she was listen to music. She chased the guy, but of course he was too fast.

I gave Unicom my details last week and they would call me when the iPhone 5 is available, starting this Friday. I don’t know about their service package, but I’ll have a look once it has arrived.

I heard many people buy their boardgames from Taobao. It’s very cheap if you buy the copied version. Everything is in English except for the instructions which you can download easily from the internet (and print).

A downside can be that the materials aren’t as solid, but if you’re lucky it’s hard to see the difference with the original.

forgetting to register shouldn’t be a big deal. Forgetting to renew your visa is something totally different and can cost you a lot of money. My friend overstayed about 3 weeks and had to pay 10,000 yuan, plus his school also had to pay a few thousand for not registering him.

If you won’t extend this visa again, I’m sure you can skip to register, but it’s probably better to register anyway. If they ask you to pay a fine, then try to walk away and forget about it.

How far from Chengdu is Lugu Lake?

You’ll probably want to take the train to Xichang first which is about 10-12 hours I think (could be wrong). Then another 6 hours on the bus to Lugu Lake.

I did it the other way around on the way back from my travels in Yunnan.

I was there during the summer holiday holiday (so peak season). I think it was 300 yuan for the ones at the lake. They also have other rooms which are cheaper, but not at the lake.

I went there this summer and the ticket is to enter the area.

I visited a minority village just north of Luoshui (the main village at the lake). It’s a bit difficult to find as you have to hike up the mountain, but someone from the northmost hotel at the lake in Luoshui went with me. Maybe you can ask there, forgot the name though, but this hotel is actually at the water instead of all the other hotels have a road between the hotel and the lake.

It seemed a real authentic village, all wooden houses/ huts, children in dirty cloths, almost no electricity and cooking on a fire. I spend one night and for dinner they killed a pig and cooked it over the fire.
