Hahah. This is great. I’m kind of puzzled. You were in a rush so forgot to ask for her details, but you did have the time to take a lovely picture of her? How did that happen exactly?

If I somehow somewhere bump into her, I’ll let her know someone’s looking for her! Lol!

Would Skype not meet your needs? The data used on phone calls is pretty small and I don’t think you could beat $0.023-$0.1/min with these cards. Connection is pretty good too most of the time.

You can also get a real (Skype) number for $18 for 3 months so people can call you on that.

Wow, that sounds horrible. I seriously don’t get how anyone gets a good night sleep running a business that way.

Excess luggage not an option? Getting a 30kg suitcase home by taking it with you on the plane should be pretty easy and definitely a lot cheaper.

You giving away or selling those items? I’d say yes to a free oven. 😉

    I think that’s a big plus! I’m sure you’ll find some people.

A good idea might be to start a WeChat “Sunday Afternoon Boxing” group or similar, and get people to join your group. Once it picks up interest, it can go pretty fast. From there on out you could communicate with everyone when/where and for how much they can join one of your sessions. The open fields at Sichuan University are a pretty popular location for these kind of things.

People are pretty familiar with this setup and it seems to work pretty well!

    Good luck.

Really, damn, I did not realize that. The shop front was still there, last time I passed. The closing of that place is the end of an era. There are a ton of tattoo shops in Chengdu now though, I have seen several in the Poly Center alone. The other day I was there visiting the VR cafe and heard the buzzing of tattoo guns nearby – another new shop.

Oh, in that case maybe someone else must have taken over the shop, if it’s still open. But those two artists are not there anymore. They moved to separate studios already like two years ago.

Fishbone in Yulin doesn’t exist anymore. The couple split up and now each have their own studios. His in Poly Center, hers in Tongzilin.

It seems a huge load of tattoo shops opened up left and right over the last few years. Most of them charging anywhere between 800-1500/hr. I wonder how many of those actually bring the quality to back that up.

I have been ordering from the Rightsun Taobao shop for years, as well as many others I know: https://ruishangtb.taobao.com/

They are the official distributor for BSN and ON brands in China. This has been confirmed by the brands’ customer service. I think that’s about as reliable as you can get in China / on Taobao.

Prices are slightly higher compared to elsewhere, but not outrageous and there’s almost always a bargain to find left or right depending on the promotions.

Another popular cheaper brand that a lot of people have been getting is MYPROTEIN. It’s also easy to find in big bags on Taobao, although I can’t recommend any shop cause I’ve never tried it.

I’ve trained there, it’s a great and good looking CrossFit gym. The only downside being the location, unless you don’t mind a long commute or finding a place nearby to live.

There’s another CrossFit affiliate in the south called CrossFit HuoGuo where I currently have a subscription because I got a great deal for “Open Gym only”, but it’s also far away.

I guess another downside is that legit CrossFit tends to be pricy in China. It’s the same price as the mid to high end US boxes. They’re both about $120-210/mo depending on how long of a membership you get.

    CrossFit HuoGuo
    1 Month: 1399RMB
    3 Months: 3550RMB
    6 Months: 5880RMB
    12 Months: 10000RMB

I don’t have the pricelist for Tianfu but it’s slightly more expensive if I remember correctly.

Don’t get mislead by visa agents, obtaining a student visa is a piece of cake and you can just apply and pay in person at Sichuan University. They will guide you through everything, don’t worry.

When I went for my registration at the police station, they explicitly asked me if I was teaching on my tourist visa or not, and if I would be able to leave the country in time. Then they clarified again that I could definitely not teach with this visa. That was the first time that happened in 5 years. It happened at the PSB before, but never with the local police.

My landlord contacted me recently and said that the PSB called her and reminded her that I need to register at the PSB before my current registration expires in November, 2016. I just registered at the PSB less than a month ago. So all I can say is that the crackdown appears to be real. In the 6-7 years that I’ve been living in my current place, I don’t remember the PSB ever calling my landlord.

The same happened to me. They called my emergency contact to tell me I needed to register again ASAP. I think it was barely 2 weeks after I got my new visa. They usually never call.
