WoodWERDParticipant
I haven’t worked there, but I did go check the campus out earlier this year. It’s a small campus and looked nice, but it’s pretty far from the city center. The surrounding area is really quiet and undergoing a lot of development, so I would not expect a whole lot of social/entertainment options. Not sure if that’s something you care about, just throwing it out there.
WoodWERDParticipantI’ve been using BCShop on taobao, which is based out of HK and seems legit.
WoodWERDParticipantDo you know about waifood.com? What would you be doing differently?
WoodWERDParticipantI know Brendan has just found what he describes as a great gym near SM square and he also scored an excellent deal there. if you live anywhere near Yu Lin a huge new place has just opened too. It’s a good time to be looking for a membership….
Is there more than one SM Square? I’m down the street from the one up north on 2nd ring, so I’d love to know more. I work out at the Mirako there and my membership is up in a few months; I’d prefer a place that opens before 10am and has more space for weights.
WoodWERDParticipantI got on the googles and found that there is/was a group of locals that played here fairly recently. Trying to track them down… http://chinesebangqiu.blogspot.kr/2015/01/chengdu-skyforce-baseball-club.html
I would love to get some rec-league baseball or preferably softball going. Jhulifan and I are just going to go throw around at Sichuan U this afternoon. I haven’t seen a real field since I’ve been here.
WoodWERDParticipantBumping in case anyone else out there is interested. I just brought my glove back from the states…I’ll hit you up on wechat.
WoodWERDParticipantYou should specify what you want/need. Gyms are everywhere here.
WoodWERDParticipantI’m seeing several food delivery companies that provide Macro based nutrition options. A far cry from the situation in Chengdu not so long ago.
Can you elaborate? Diet is where I struggle, even cooking for myself and eating pretty clean. I don’t really measure out my food or track my daily intake though. Green Foods doesn’t care about those of us up north 🙁
WoodWERDParticipantInterested in the dutch oven and other cookware!
WoodWERDParticipantAbout 2 days left to file or get your extension in!
WoodWERDParticipantWill you guys be doing this again in the near future? Looks amazing!
WoodWERDParticipantI wouldn’t expect much western-style nightlife in the area you plan to live, but for that all you’d need to do is hop on the BRT (2nd ring road express bus) and head south. K1 buses go clockwise around the loop and K2 the opposite; those with an A at the end (K1A) skip the terminal stations. Buy yourself a bus/subway card at Hong Qi convenience stores or elsewhere around town. Save a little money and avoid having to buy a ticket each time.
Gyms are typically found in shopping centers so you shouldn’t have to look far. Expect to pay up front for 6-12 months with prices getting lower the longer you commit.
Hope that helps!
WoodWERDParticipantDoes your company have a wechat account? I’d like to join one of these in the future, but busy this weekend unfortunately. Searched wildmoutain (and mountain), but I’m assuming that’s weibo…
WoodWERDParticipant^^^ Yep, used cheapvietnamvisa.net for my trip this past January and had no problems. Be prepared to sit around the airport for at least an hour if you’re arriving late at night.
WoodWERDParticipantSince you guys mentioned Korean, where can I find some good Hanguo ban fan?
WoodWERDParticipantSmartair.taobao.com – Cheap, effective, and you should have no problems selling it when it’s time to go. There are actually 2 for sale right now here, which is a steal. You may as well buy both and then just get a couple new filters from the taobao shop.
WoodWERDParticipantYeah OP, the Chengdu PSB does adhere to the 2 year experience policy. Sounds like your friend should update his resume to reflect/emphasize his years of experience as a trainer. If the recruiter didn’t bother to suggest that then I’d probably look for a new one.
My school said to me that because of this I have to fly to Bejing first to complete a TEFL 7 day intensive course which will then allow me a visa to teach in Chengdu.
How much is this excursion costing you? Sounds sketchy as hell but it’s not unheard of.
WoodWERDParticipantBing.com gave plenty of results for ‘Chengdu map English’ – here’s the first site I found: http://www.chinatourmap.com/chengdu/chengdu-maps.html
Alternatively, find the nearest international-oriented hostel, they’re bound to have some. You could also try Bookworm.
WoodWERDParticipantThat area gets tens of thousands of tourists a day (not an exaggeration).
Damn. Does it make a difference if you go during the week versus weekend? I was thinking about squeezing in a trip before the holiday, but will probably wait until the middle of next month instead.
WoodWERDParticipantGiving this thread a bump since it’s awesome. The Skyy just arrived and looks legit, and I bought an Aeropress recently so I tried the coffee too – good stuff! Not amazing finds per se, but some random stuff I’ve bought recently…
