At Nuhi’s Deli we are hiring an assistant to the owner. This position has a broad range of tasks, among which are:
– Maintain Chinese social media (Weibo, Weixin, Dianping, Meituan, etc.)
– Assist the owner with internet purchasing;
– Assist the owner with communicating with wuguan, accountant, government, suppliers;
– Assist with updating menu and special leaflets;
– Assist with administration;
– And many more, small tasks that come up.

The ideal profile is an English major at one of Chengdu’s Universities, either male or female. The job is part time and the hours are flexible, divided over Wednesdays through Sundays. On average the job will take between 12 and 20 hours per week. Co-working is an option, if the hours are too many for one, we can divide the work over two people.

Advantage for the candidate is working in an international environment.

We have reached the number of candidates we were aiming for for this position so thanks to everyone who has shown an interest but for the moment we can not consider any new applicants.

We do have other openings coming up shortly (from January onward):

– Trainee bakers (3 vacancies);
Learn to bake our selection of genuine European breads, cakes and desserts. After a thorough training period the team of bakers we are building will be responsible for our bakery production. One of the 3 trainees will in time be appointed as supervisor for this team (skills allowing).
BEWARE: Please note that this job entails starting to work at 4 in the morning. If you’re not ready to do that, you’re not ready to become a baker :-).

– Trainee cook (2 vacancies);
Prepare for and cook our entire menu at Nuhi’s Deli (including some off menu specials we offer) under supervision of the Chef or Sous-Chef. After a thorough training period in which you will learn a lot about genuine Mediterranean dishes (ranging from France, through Italy, The Balkans and Greece to Turkey), their ingredients, signature herbs and spices and methods of preparation, next to work ethics in a Western kitchen, you will be responsible for executing all tasks at one of our kitchen stations.
BEWARE: in a Western kitchen about one-third to half your working hours are spent cleaning! At Nuhi’s we ruthlessly maintain cleanliness standards and if you’re not ready for that, you’re not ready to become a Western cook.

– Hostess / waitress (1 vacancy);
Your main task is to attract and maintain guests and make sure they come back. Attract guests through smart use of all technology at our disposal (like all the food-oriented social media), maintain guests by making sure they understand what we are all about at Nuhi’s, that they receive spotless service during their visit and that they feel comfortable and at ease. In order to be able to do this, you will receive a thorough education in Nuhi’s food philosophy, the way our dishes are made and what ingredients, herbs and spices are used. You will be taught the basics in wines and food-wine pairing. And yes, that will involve drinking quite some wine yourself :-).
Next to that, in time you will manage “the black brigade”, the team of waiting staff that we are building. Not an easy task since our ruthless cleanliness regime extends out of the kitchen into the dining hall.
If you are the right candidate (preference profile female, late twenties, reasonable spoken English, eye for detail and, most importantly, a sense of responsibility) you might be able to develop from hostess to restaurant manager over time.
