Hi there, trying to find a way to call abroad, does anyone know any good (and cheap) way to call phone numbers abroad? Thanks!

I like Jajah because it allows me to make calls using my phone. There’s a Jajah iPhone app which works well and the cost is very low.

I’m using Nonoh. Their rates are good, and to some countries you can make free calls.

There’s several mobile applications compatible with it. I’m using MobileVoip for iPhone.

Another option: you can purchase one of the calling cards they sell outside ChuanDa – Moziqiao gate. I have bought the China Mobile card (100 rmb card gives about 300 minutes to the U.S. – they claim 333 but i have never actually tracked). The quality of the line is usually excellent; on the rare chance you get a bad connection, you just hang up and dial back in, no problem.

i have personally found skype to be unreliable, though a friend uses Nonoh and says it’s good.

I used Jajah forever and they were great, but now they do not allow the same payment options, and their service as dropped off dramatically. I use Google and it works really good. Facetime works good as well.

    Thanks guys!
I was checking your suggestions, seems that Nonoh has the better rates for the countries that I want to call (much cheaper that the other one mentioned Jajah). I’ve checked that Facetime is just for apple (I have android). The appl that I use and works great (you cannot notice any difference with a phone!) is Viber, the problem is that it requires both parties to be subscribed 🙁
    Many thanks!

PS. @ Sascha I tried to sent you a pm about the boxes but somehow it seems that those never went out. I still have a couple of small packing boxes and a relatively big one (can carry 4 boxes). pm me if still interested.

skype or calling cards with cheap tariffs. Also i use comfi calling cards. When I go to Asia my calls cost 3 cents per minute. I do not know where you are going, depending on the price  you  need to choose. Choose country and compare Skype and calling card operator.

A few weeks ago Jajah announced that they’re shutting down, so I guess that’s the end of that.

Recently I’ve just been using FaceTime to catch up with my family overseas. Easy for us since we all have iPhones and iPads. Skype works also but I find FaceTime to be so much faster and easier and equally free. I think the days of buying calling cards are over, pretty much now that everyone has high speed internet and video conferences devices and applications and so ubiquitous.
