Hi everyone, so glad to find this little community online! I just move in to Chengdu like 4 days ago! I am in fact a Taiwanese, but had lived in US for 6 years. Frankly it’s quite hard for me to find friends here even though I can speak Chinese.

I am working in the architecture and design field, enjoying cooking and lovely cuisine, love traveling and meeting new friends. I hope to find people that have similar background or interest and share ideas and experience in Chengdu!

Here are some of my works and arts, hope this could generally introduce what I have been doing. http://issuu.com/dodochiang

Welcome to Chengdu! Out of curiosity, where in the states did you spend 6 years?

Always great to have new designers and architects come to Chengdu, there has been a steady stream of them over the past few years. Taiwan is a wonderful place, I’m sure before long you’ll get connected with the Taiwanese community in Chengdu, there are quite a lot.

    Thanks Charlie,

I lived in Georgia for a year for a high school exchange program, and spent 5 years in Rhode Island.

Yeah, indeed, judging from the speed and trend of the development in the are I live, I would certainly agree on the opportunities Chengdu offers to designers and architects. Though I personally work in company that involves in the reconstruction of the earthquake, not much high-rise or commercial buildings. That been said, I would have tons of opportunities going outside of Chengdu, for example, Yia-an, Bi fung chia…etc. but not much chance exploring the city itself. So I would love to participate more communities “inside” the city.

As for the Taiwanese communities, I actually could not find any of them so far, do you have any recommendation or connections?

From reading previous posts and comments,  I recognize that there are places like bars and bookstores where people hangout. However,  I wonder if there are any design or art lovers communities as well. There seems to be many biking events, maybe I should seriously consider getting a bike 🙂  (I have cycling around Taiwan once)

Although ??? is far removed from the city center, that is actually probably the fastest growing region of the city. A few years ago it was grasslands and now it boasts a lot of the most impressive architecture and infrastructural development in the city.

I’m not sure where they hang out or anything, just met a lot of people from Taiwan in Chengdu over the years. I don’t know much about Taiwanese culture, only been there once.

There’s a great cycling community around the Natooke shop in Chengdu, definitely check them out. This is a great city for bicycling.
