I have a pair of tickets to a soccer game tomorrow at 3pm at the big stadium north of Tianfu Square. Chengdu is playing against Beijing, it should be good! If anyone is interested, you can have the tickets for free, just shoot me a PM. I wish I could go but hopefully someone else can enjoy the game instead. If you haven’t been to a Chengdu soccer game at the stadium before, it’s a lot of fun, the atmosphere is worth experiencing.
I think the season has finished so its probably a friendly. Chinese football seasons normally run March to November. Chengdu are in the 2nd division anyway.
If they are playing against Beijing Guoan then it would be worth going to see Frederic Kanoute (formerly Tottenham & Sevilla). He plays for Guoan now.
After getting directed to the wrong place twice, i finally managed to find the pitch. It was at Chengdu Sports Uni. I made it just 10min before the end of the game. It was actually indoor soccer and it was the Chengdu Sports Uni vs some Beijing Uni. Chengdu won 10-1. Although I didnt see much, the 30/40ish supporters were still quite roudy and excited. Smashing drums and waving flags. Got me interested to see more sportgames in China.
Glad you made it! Yeah, the games are rowdy. All of the soccer games I’ve been to have been like that. Flags, cheering, etc. The atmosphere is good and you can sneak beers in.
