I went to a cosplay event at the ??? convention center last weekend with a colleague. First time attending anything like that – lots of wigs, makeup, and plastic weapons! Apparently events like this happen 5-6 times a year in Chengdu. Worth checking out once for fun with a friend if only to witness all the bizarre things there like cosplay “acting competitions”.

Rad photos! Any info on where to find out where these gigs are at? I know I know. I spend the majority of my time beside a cosplay cafe, but if you know of any other venue it’d be interesting to check out.

The place next door to your shop is probably a great candidate. In this case I just had a colleague invite me out of the blue. There are at least a handful of big cosplay events (thousands of people) a year in Chengdu.

You’ll really need some passion for Japanese comics to understand this. It’s probably the closest you can get to be someone unreal in real life.
