Visit the official Chengdu Dojo website for info and directions.

We’ve come full circle: the one year anniversary and the twelfth Dojo event is happening on May 1st. This is the biggest event we have hosted so far, with 13 DJs on three stages, including two headliners from Shanghai.

If you haven’t heard about these events, they are the stuff of Chengdu legend. Here’s what’s at this event:

Drunk Monk, co-founder of the legendary Shelter club in Shanghai, is headlining along with DJ Mia, one of the most respected female DJs in the country, also from Shanghai.

(Mia is playing at Tag tonight, Friday April 25th, and Gaz is connected to the Scratcha DVA show at Here We Go on Wednesday April 30th, so check both of those shows out to support these artists).

If you haven’t heard of Drunk Monk, check out this interview with him from late last year. This is one of the most influential people involved with music in China, without a doubt. Aside from co-founding Shelter and promoting hip hop and electronic music, he’s also co-founded Uprooted Sunshine, a reggae group that has toured the country multiple times, and Sub Culture, an underground music collective which has spread as far as Tokyo.

DJ Mia has playing in Shanghai and all across China for years, holding down residencies in Shanghai. One of the few widely-respected female DJs across the country, known to play techno. Here’s an interview with DJ Mia.

Rounding out the cast are members of the Dojo Collective, spread out across three stages. If you’ve been to DJ events in Chengdu, this is pretty much the most comprehensive collection of skilled DJs in Chengdu that you will see, representing the United States, China, UK, Germany, South Africa, Estonia, and Morocco.

Set times are coming soon and will be posted here.

Thirteen DJ’s are on the lineup. No pop music and lots of musical diversity. Big sound! Three areas.

We cooperate with Sinostage, the most elite street dance organization in Chengdu, which regularly hosts some of the world’s best dancers and choreographers to lead classes. They’re bringing their elite dancers to this event.

Black lights, glowing balls, glowing water: you know the deal.

We’re up in the kitchen cooking up magic. Seriously, the food is really good and some of this stuff you can’t get anywhere else. Our pizza is some of the best you will find in Chengdu (along with Mike’s Pizza Kitchen).

This event is free. Drinks are cheap and start at 20 yuan. We have Jungle Juice,  jello shots, and more, too.

    • Starts at 8pm, goes really late. As in, sunrise, sometimes.
    • Free entry
    • Location is in Flower Town, the address and Google Map is here

You can take a taxi directly there, which will cost you about 50 yuan from Chengdu. Split it with friends and get there cheap and easy.

You can also take the subway, get off at the second to last stop on the Eastern end of Line 2 (it’s called Honghe, ??). At exit A1 you’ll see cars with the Dojo logo who’ll take you to our gate for 15-20 yuan.

The same drivers will be waiting at our gate to take you back into the city late at night in whatever state of inebriation you’re in as long as you can communicate a location.

All this info is on the official Dojo website.

Spread the news and bring your friends. The more the merrier.

You can see some photos of previous Dojo events here and follow Dojo on Weibo here.
