Dan Village Dragon Kiln: located 60km away from downtown Chengdu, the history traces back to 150 years ago, used to be the official pottery factory for Qing Dynasty. In Sichuan people like pickled vegetable very much, and it is said that 90% percent of the pickled cabbage jars are produced here. Nowadays this Dragon Kiln has been not only a factory to produce the pottery items, but a place let the local students experience the traditional culture.

The students will be led by the expert to experience pottery art making and plate painting, and also if time permitted, they may take away their pieces.

Dan village is not far from Chengdu, it is only about 40km away from downton Chengdu. And we only drive about 1 hour to get there. In this village, there is a pottery cave which is more than 100 years old. And so far now the locals still  make pottery here. This place is perfect place for the families to take the kids to experience the hand made pottery art and enjoy the view of countryside.

For actually, it is not so convenient to travel around Chengdu without a local friend. Therefore, I’d like to recommend a professional and considerate travel agency mainly providing tailor made tours for foreigners. I participated one of their events with my friends and it was great. Maybe you can try, they have contact information on their website: http://www.scexpeditions.com/.

    Good luck!
