Interested in what people have to say about their favourites of 2012 so far…
Can be a top 5 or whatever.
Hope to pick up some recommendations of stuff I might have missed over the last year.
Keep em comin’ in…
December 9, 2012 at 11:34 am #24402CharlieKeymasterI had fun looking through the last year of releases for these. If you use iTunes, you can make a custom playlist of albums added in 2012 and have everything nearly organized by album for review.

December 11, 2012 at 6:27 am #24464CharlieKeymasterGood thinking adding Spotify links, Niklas. I went back and added them for mine. Makes listening to albums much easier.

December 22, 2012 at 6:24 am #24857Bertalan FarkasParticipantHey AM,
A little surprised at your list, what no Villalobos or Shed?
The Grimes album is coming up a lot and its certainly a strong one (as good as Halfaxa though?)
Hear her live show is “evolving” a lot, so Shanghai could be great.
Was disappointed with The xx album though.
Didn’t listen to much rock/indie this year but thought the Dinosaur Jr Album – I Bet On Sky, was pretty decent.

December 22, 2012 at 7:07 am #24858AMParticipantQuote:Hey AM,A little surprised at your list, what no Villalobos or Shed?
I just had a look at the most listened to stuff in my itunes. The Electronic stuff is filed away in other playlists/areas.
Never really got the whole Villalobos thing to be honest. I’d like to see him DJ but as a producer he doesn’t really do it for me.
Shed was fucking ace though. As was Randomer, Trevino, Jon Convex, Objekt (I heard he played a blinder in Shanghai last week)& Matador.
Have you heard that Andy Stott album?
December 23, 2012 at 2:34 am #24865Bertalan FarkasParticipantYou mean “Luxury Problems”? Thought it was quite good actually
Dubby stuff that is a continuation of what he put out last year: Passed Me By & We Stay Together
He has done suff in the past with Claro Intelecto (who I thought put put a slightly better album)
Agree on Jon Convex, the label seems to be going well too.
PS – You did not rate Alcachofa? (whatever about his more recent stuff, that one is a classic)
December 31, 2012 at 9:51 am #25179Mr. KlinkParticipantAll about nailed it for me. However, here are a few picks I haven’t seen yet that I’d stand by:
The Walkmen – Heaven
10 years and going. Walkmen have yet to release an album I don’t like. I keep looking for it and after the first cut on this imagined this could be it, but after a repeat quickly fell in love with it. Definitely mellowed out over the years but killer song and album construction.
Killer Mike – R.A.P. Music
Charged hip hop. Don’t know how else to explain it. Political and clever. The closing song is great and does some to resolve the album. Imagine getting angry listening to this like you would listening to the Swans or something. Good stuff.
Lightships – Electric Cables
Slowcore. If you were ever a fan of Teenage Fanclub you’ll probably enjoy this. Takes a couple of spins before your ears warm to it but definitely worth it. Pared down melodies hook you in and keep you listening.
Happy listening, happy new year and thanks for all the suggestions.
