Hi people,
Are there any casinos in Chengdu? Some poker would be cool, I’m not expecting Vegas, but at least some bars or slots and tables.
Thanks.

There are some underground pokergames with real tables and dealers available but they are mostly for prizes (e.g.: buy in cash, play MTT to win iPad). Although foreigners got in trouble with the police before for going there after a recent raid. Be careful.

P.S. Gambling is illegal, but every tea house have a gambling room 🙂

May 30, 2013 at 1:04 pm #32102BrendanModeratorI just spent a couple of days in Macau, and I’d suggest if you are going to go you should head to the new hotel/casino area. The hotels are brand spanking new, and cheap. I paid 900 rmb per for the Sheraton, incidentally the worlds biggest. The casinos are huge, interconnected between different hotels. It’s no Las Vegas for buzz, but if you’re looking for a gamble in a decent environment it’s the next best thing.
I have to say I did get sick of all the mall areas in the hotels though. As if I haven’t seen enough Gucci stores in China already, or come to think of it fat 30 something Chinese guys maxed out to baller infinity status with said Gucci etc. duds. You have been warned.
May 30, 2013 at 2:37 pm #32109Chris ZiichModeratorThere are casual games at Dave’s Oasis (Tue, Thurs, Sat) and Morning Bar. Poker for drink vouchers at Paname.
They’re around 100 buyin.

Yes there are. They’re not open to the public or advertised, but there are *full on* casinos in Chengdu. There is one just north of TianFu Square, between tianfu and babaojie. Foreigners can get in with a little effort, Chinese can’t unless they know someone – I don’t know if it’s still there actually, that was like a year and a half ago, but I know there are full on casinos in Chengdu 😀

I’ve heard that some video arcades in Chengdu are fronts for gambling and other black market establishments. Never been inside a full on illegal casino in Chengdu, but I don’t doubt that they exist at all. Would be cool if someone could provide a first hand report of one, ie what games are played inside and how they work.

May 30, 2013 at 9:36 pm #32141Chris ZiichModeratorI hear about one of these places getting raided by the cops every month. Lots of underground poker games also.
