    I would have thought that the answer should have been raising the pensionable age from 55 to 65, like most of the world.But then maybe it was a case of not being able to see the wood for the trees?

    Good move, but they haven’t gotten rid of the one child policy entirely, just changed the rules. I think the entire concept of the one child policy violates human nature and is fundamentally a bad thing, but it’s taken China a long time to really feel the sting. Throughout China’s explosive growth in recent decades one of their greatest assets has been demographics, which are rapidly turning against them as the population ages and people have fewer children. Overall a step in the right direction, but still a half-measure.

    Putting an end to labor camps is also a major human rights victory.
