    Hello friends,

    I think can to be useful, make a “glossary” of some words or sentence in different languages that sometimes Google Translator can’t give you in correct form.

    Historical names of Sichuan / Chengdu explained.

    [巴蜀] “Ba Shu”

    Oldest name of Sichuan. it refers to two ancient kingdoms “Ba [巴]” & “Shu [蜀]” dating back to 4th century BC and earlier

    Chengdu was the capital of Shu, western kingdom in Sichuan.

    And Chongqing was one of the capitals of Ba Kingdom located in eastern region of Sichuan Basin.

    both regimes were annexed into Qin/Chin[秦] kingdom . state (Capital: Xi’an) during late 4th century BC

    Since then, the Chinese word “Shu”[蜀] becomes identical to Sichuan and everything associated to Chengdu.

    [益州] “Yi Zhou” (County/State of Yi)

    Administrative divsion name of Chengdu region / Sichuan Basin since Han Dynasty (1st century BC)

    [天府之国] “Tian Fu Zhi Guo” (Country of heaven wealth/abundance)

    Renown of Sichuan Basin since ancient time, praising its fertile land and agricultural richness.

    [剑阁/剑门关] “Jian Ge” / “Jian Men Guan” (Sword Gate Pass)

    first built in early 3rd century AD, it was named for the cliffs in the mountain are “sharp like sword edge”

    The Gate Pass located appr. 220km northeast from Chengdu. It was the north entrance to Sichuan Basin and the strategic safeguard of Chengdu.

    In the ancient times, losing Sword Gate simply means Chengdu/Sichuan Basin will be defenceless.

    [剑南] “Jian Nan” (Sword South) i.e. South of Sword Gate Pass

    Name of Sichuan since Tang Dynasty (7th century AD), from military administrative name “Jian Nan Dao” [剑南道 / Sword South Route/Way/Via]

    [四川] “Sichuan” (Four Rivers)

    Name since 10th Century, Song Dynasty.

    from “川峡四路” [River Gorges’ Four (administrative) Routes]

    [成都] “Chengdu” (Accomplished/Achieved (as) Capital)

    from very ancient time “一年而所居成聚,二年成邑,三年成都”

    the first year archieved as a settlement

    the second year as a township

    the third year ACHIEVED[Cheng成] as a CAPITAL [du都]

    [蓉城] “Rong Cheng” (City of Rosemallow) AKA of Chengdu

    Rosemallow were planed on the city wall in 10th Century (between Tang and Song Dynasty)

    [锦官城 / 锦城 ] (Brocade(silk) City) AKA of Chengdu

    Brocade was a famous product of Chengdu in ancient Han Dyansty (First Century, 2000s years ago)

    Can anyone provide the correct characters for these ones? I tried looking them up once but found it too difficult. I think the pinyin is correct though.

    Hello Federico,

    I’d like to say something. What does “leverage – leva – Zhìhéng 制衡” mean? And i’ve ever heard “多少贵” If you want to know the price of a thing. You may should say “这个多少钱”“zhe ge duo shao qian”
