    Hi!

I’m due to arrive in Chengdu for a time. I would love to take some cooking classes.

My mandarin should be good enough to take the classes using putonghua, however I don’t think I could hack the sichuan dialect.

    Any available resources?

There is the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine:

    Although this looks pretty serious.

Yeah, US $2,000 serious. If I were serious about learning to cook Sichuan food I’d probably find a good restaurant and ask the chef to teach me when he has time. I think it’d be easy to arrange something like that and the cost would be very low. Obviously requires speaking Chinese.

I got in touch with the SHIC, and they have a 3-month cooking course (mandarin) starting on the 1st of March, for 15k rmb.

I’m very, very tempted to just jump at the chance. Obviously this is taking it to the next level, but I can make it work, I think.
