    Hi guys,

I have a friend here in Chengdu that arrived a month ago. She uses a insulin pump that uses a special kind of insulin I guess (i don’t know all the details). She was told that of course she will be able to get it here, but so far, a month in, she has not been able to find it (she has found it in many other countries, so its not too specialised… but it can be expensive).

She now has less than two weeks supply left, and has been forced to buy a flight back home for the end of this week for incase she does not find it.

So if anyone has direct experience with getting insulin here in Chengdu, or knows of a friend with diabetes that gets insulin here in Chengdu, please let me know ASAP before she flies home.

(Yes, we have been told just go to a hospital and ask. She has been doing so for the past month with no luck).

    Thanks!

China supposedly has the world’s largest diabetes epidemic, there must be a local solution you can find to solve this problem. My assumption is that you could walk into a hospital and say you’re diabetic and need insulin and get information on how to proceed without too much hassle but I’ve never done this and am not certain. You might want to visit Global Doctors in Chengdu to see what they say, the visit will cost you something like 600 rmb but the doctor there is knowledgeable about the local landscape of healthcare and can almost certainly point you in the right direction.
