I get Chinese massages regularly from a “Blind Massage” place down the street from where I live, but I’m interested in Thai massage.

Can anyone recommend a place? I’m not sure if the only Thai massage is in spas that offer this service or if there are other options.

I don’t know if it’s Thai massage exactly but the place we go for our awesome weekly oil massage is called Siyanli in the Galleria shopping mall. I guess it’s a bit pricey by local standards but we get a one-hour full body massage for around 250 RMB. (But this is a 50% discount off normal prices, which you have to become a member to get. If you’re interested, I can give you more info on this.)

It’s pretty swanky, with low-key surroundings and a quiet atmosphere. I think the rooms are all two-bed–some with a bath as well as a shower–so it’s nice to go with your partner or a friend (if the friendship can handle a bit of nakedness). And the massages are actually enjoyable. I don’t know what the deal is hereabouts, but pretty much all the Chinese massages I got in Taiwan were way too painful to be anywhere near relaxing.

And they have lots of options: head, shoulders, feet, facials, etc.

Like I said, it’s gonna be more expensive than the blind massage dudes, but I’m still comparing everything to Tokyo prices and I think what we get is probably worth about US$200 in any hotel/spa in Japan or the Western world. So for me it’s awesome value.

Ever been to Thailand? The difference is enormous! The normal type of massage in China is 推拿 and this is the Wikipedia page on Thai massage which describes it: Thai massage

Hmm. I could have sworn Thai massage was also an oil-type massage. Feel free to move my earlier post to another topic…

Mel, thai massage has a lot of twisting and turning of your body, instead of just pressing.

    Tell u its shiok!

BTW, i am interested in the place you mentioned too. do you have address and full price?

@AKK, I don’t have the exact address but I found their page on the Galleria shopping mall website for you:

    http://www.gtcgalleria.com/cn/brand/healthbeauty-spa/

I think Galleria is called (or near?) “Kaidan” or something in Chinese(?) Anyway, it’s right near Ikea on Shenghe 1st Road.

I can’t remember the prices for everything because there are lots of options but there’s a phone number on the webpage you can call. (They don’t speak English though, as far as I can tell.)

We usually get a one-hour full-body massage plus something else. Full price for the one-hour full-body is around 500 RMB and the something else is about half that, if memory serves.

What we did though was became “members” by handing over 5000 RMB, which then becomes our store credit that we can use on anything, anytime and gets us a 50% discount on everything. It’s a bit to fork over up front, but we got one membership to share between the two of us and have been going almost every week. No regrets so far : )

And this may or may not be the company website:

    http://www.siyanli.net.cn:8000/blog/index1.php

    Hope this helps!

Oh, and they do a little bit of the twisting and turning stuff but I guess not to the extent of Thai massage, although it wouldn’t surprise me if they have Thai massage as one of their options…

@Charlie If you live in the south of CD, there is a great massage ship I frequent with my wife. Their Thai massage may just be what you are looking for. Lots of leg work, back stretching , figure 4 leg locks (almost).

Its on Tong zilin Dong Lu, Walk past Casamosaico, barf profusely, keep walking and you will see the massage place. Name in English is “Tea house takes a bath” or something.

    2 hours Thai massage – 138 RMB.

    Phone : 85195528

There’s a lot of massage places behind the Sheraton Hotel – between the hotel and the panda mall. I can’t imagine they are expensive judging by the look of them but a few of them advertise Thai massages. There are about 10 massages places in a row.

Hehe! Yeah, that’s the kind of massage that’s very easy to find in Chengdu. Just google “chengdu massage” and you get pages and pages of it. So if that’s what the OP wanted, I don’t think he would bother posting a query on this forum… I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, anyway : )

I’m interested in authentic Thai massage – not 推拿, not Chinese spas, not prostitutes! haha
