now its spring time there are some lovely parks to take little children for daily outings. My favourite is Wang Jiang park because its beautiful, big and has lots of wild space as well as a good outdoor children’s playground with a great trampoline. Donghu Park on the east 2nd ring road is good too and has an outdoor sandpit.

Indoors there is a big soft play centre on the third floor of the Sunning Mall, and a small soft play centre in the Xinhuan bookshop on the 1st ring Road and Wuhou Street junction.

The best place to go for children to play and meet other children and to learn a little is the Music Box, a western-style playgroup centre near Tongzilin Metro Stop.

And finally the Science Museum behind on Tianfu Square is great for children of all ages – lots of space to run around and some good interactive displays.

All good spots, Wang Jiang is good for kids too because there are a lot of hidden spaces and lil bamboo groves.

I love the Music Box – Louise is a co-founder – and I take my little ones there as often as I can. The only thing about the Music Box, for me, is that general playtime is only in the mornings. Any plans to expand that?

Sascha, glad to know how much your children like the Music Box. Of course we would like to start afternoon sessions. Please let me know who else would like an afternoon session and we can put one on!

Is there any chance for the music box to post their schedules online? Which classes / free play at which day/time? I really missed that on the website, and did not receive any answer to my enquiry by mail.

Music Box playgroup sessions which include movement, storytelling, art, play and music activities are every morning Tuesday to Sunday. The group activities are from 10.30am to 11.30am but people are welcome to come from 9.30am and many parents bring lunch or buy lunch downstairs and leave after lunch.

At the moment people can drop in in the afternoons for free play but we hope to open afternoon playgroup sessions as well since they really are fabulous for children.

We are redesigning our English wehsite and it will show more information. The best thing is to phone the Music Box for info.

the music box is for children aged 0-6. During the school day we have daily morning sessions for 0-3 year olds. We also have a great Music/English class for children aged 3-6 which runs on a Saturday afternoon.

The Music Box also hosts birthday parties and these can be for children any age. Many expatriate parents have booked birthday parties at the Music Box and loved them. Birthday parties can be booked for Sunday afternoons.

if you’re interested in the music box, they are holding an open morning on Monday March 18th from 10am to 12pm. A good chance to meet other parents and see what the Music Box has to offer.

The Music Box is three minutes walk east from Tongzilin Metro Stop (exit D) in Fengde Wanrui Building on the corner of Hangkong Road and Xinxiwang Road (there’s a big Oakwood sign on top of the building). Go to the back of the building by the Bank of China and Block A is between Starbucks and the Seven-Eleven. The Music Box is on the 18th floor.
