    Newbie wondering about ordering on Taobao. We don’t have a Chinese bank account. Is that necessary? Or if it’s possible to use an American CC, is that a reliable thing to do?

    You can not use an American CC on Taobo. You can only use Chinese debit cards or credit card.

    Apparently, but I’ve not tried yet, you can also deposit money at the post office (like a prepaid card) and then buy on taobao. That way you don’t need a bank card. Can anyone give a more detailed description of how to do this?

    You can perform search criteria in Taobao that lets you find sellers who accept cash on delivery. I think this is also widely available with 360buy.com

    @Kim Duistermaat,

    the prepaid system at the post office you mentioned is about a machine called La-ka-la,you recharge with the machine and it feedbacks you a receipt.first of all,u need to enroll a zhifubao account(chinese paypal…),then go to find a LAKALA near you to recharge your zhifubao account by paying cash.It’ll cost 2% of your total recharging amount for purchase.Not only post office,you could get a LAKALA in any Red-flag-chain-stores,Huhui-chain-stores and more.you can also buy a household LAKALA for your credit payment.

    the LAKALA outlets in chengdoo

    Go to the postal savings bank, ask for a wang hui e, fill out the form or get someone to help you, then take the form to a teller. It’s a minimal charge and they ask you to enter a password. You get a voucher with a number, use the voucher number and password to recharge your Alipay account.
