I`m going to Bangkok next month, for 7 days. I was told that there is nothing much to see there, therefore could you please/ cities suggest me places nearby? Reachable by trains or buses? Have you hired any guides to go to jungles etc?
Anything about nightlife? Where to go and where not to? Prices?
I’m kind of kean to try Thai sexual boosters, since I have heard that it works quite great. Have anyone tried it before?
I could seek for all the info online, but I have got no connection at home, working desk is not the best option. Therefore would be happy to hear your tips.

There are a ton of things to see and do in Bangkok. It’s not a city for everyone, but I would spend at least a day or two there. It’s a massive city with a lot happening. Here’s a good guide: Bangkok on Wikitravel
7 days is pretty short for a trip to Thailand, but I would choose either the south or north of the country. The north is jungles and the places to see are Chiang Mai, Pai, Chiang Rai, etc. The south is islands and there are dozens of choices on places to go but some of my favorites are Koh Chang, Koh Lanta, Koh Tao, etc.
The trains in Thailand are great. Cheap and comfortable with train lines that take you to most corners of the country.
If you’re interested in nightlife, Bangkok is the place to go. All of the islands have nightlife places on the beach, too.

I would spend at least a day or two there, out of your 7-day trip. It’s a vibrant city. Try to be there on a Sunday and go to the Chatujak Market. It’s pretty incredible. There are also great parks in the city and a lot of interesting sub-cultures (graffiti, skateboarding, tattoo artists, reggae music, etc).

I would be careful messing with that stuff. You never know what’s inside pills like that, especially somewhere like Thailand that is full of entire industries designed to take advantage of tourists.

Nothing to see in Bangkok??? Who told you that? Bangkok is amazingly colorful, multi-cultural and fascinating. Take a long walk down the longest road in Asia (Sukhumvit) from Soi 3 to Soi 80 something! It reaches to the Cambodian border. You can do the odds one day and evens the next. You go through little Arabia, little Japan back to Thai life and then some! You can eat everything from authentic Egyptian food to Mexican food to Ethiopian food to obviously Thai food. Forget the questionable pills and have a food’gasm. Bangkok is more enjoyable with each visit. Forget the tourist sites and just wander. Legitimate massages to not so legitimate massages.
Now the city is wrapped up in protests, but it should not turn violent. It is more of hassle to get around the city, but actually makes the experience more exciting (if not violent like 2010).
Also it is one of the only cities you can stay in very nice 5 star international hotels for very decent prices.

Dana, thanks a lot for a great advice! Seems like you are very familiar with Bangkok. Do you believe in case if protests will turn into violent, shall I keep my camera equipment in the hotel rather than shooting around? Or locals would be tolerant to tourists in any way?
I think it best to never photograph protests in any country! Of course many do and I have, but it is still best not to and more polite as a visitor. I really don’t think it will turn violent and even if it does it will most likely not effect tourists. Tourism is big for Thailand’s GDP and most locals are indifferent to tourists. They will smile and that is the extent of it. Friendly, but they usually do not mingle and show their excitement like many Chinese. I can go on forever about Thailand but gotta go to work! Much luck and don’t hesitate to ask anything. My husband and I will be there next week.

Yes the protests are showing no signs of ceasing. And they have become violent…not like 2010…but obviously not over yet. Not the best time to go in my opinion (not out of personal safety, but general city mood), but prices of hotels will certainly be down if you care about that. I love Bangkok and will still go, but if this is the first visit to the city I might advise against it. Once again NOT about personal safety but the atmosphere is more tense.

Bangkok itself did not impress that much, but the city itself and culture of locals have left a very good impression on me. Though temple Wat Arum is definitely worth visiting. All the others are more or less the same.

Ayuthaya is a great place for visiting complex of ancient temples and to ride elephants (I didn`t). Trip takes roughly 3 hours by train. Trains a great ) All the time I was popping out the window to check the landscapes.
Bangkok is convenient for travelling to Cambodia (which was the best part of my trip, though Cambodia requires a lot of home work for researching, since the place is full of scums). It takes 6 hours by train, 1 hour for crossing the border and further 3 hours to reach Siem Riep. Ones willing to see the insane poverty and ghettos, Cambodia is the right place. Angkor Wat is not so bad, though I`m not up to temples so much.
For recreational activities probably you should check places mentioned by Charlie in the beginning of the post.

How long did you end up staying in Bangkok? Did the protests affect your getting around the city at all? I’m going to spend a little over a month in Thailand, but I think I’m just going to be flexible and see where the winds take me. I’ll be traveling solo, so if anyone wants to hang out with a Texan over the break give me a shout!
Not much. Slightly more than a day. I didn’t go to a center, as I was suggested by receptionist, and I didn’t face any protestants.
I have seen only large screens with politicians among major roads, and that’s it.
I was travelling by boats, subways and trains – and it was smooth as my new shaving razor )Lol. I have read my previous post and found out that I contradict myself. Bangkok leaves a nice impression in terms of culture and overall organization, but apart from that nothing special, at least for me. Guess like that it sounds more logical.
I would imagine you’re barely scratching the surface in a day…I’ll probably spend a few nights couchsurfing and/or at a hotel before I decide whether to move on sooner than later.
I did a lot of home work. I knew I would have something like 6 full days. So I had about 8 options. Trip to Cambodia was for granted, therefore I have applied for visa in advance. I had only 3 days left for Thailand and 7 possibilities to spend them. I was acting in accordance with circumstances. On particular day transportation to a city was not available, so I went elsewhere.
