Significantly worse in China though. In American cities like NY and SF, the fashion scene is much more developed. Of course there are brand name whores that don’t have a clue, but on the other hand you will find many trendy, unique individuals. You rarely find the latter in China. I guess I just haven’t seen as much of that in Chengdu as in NY or SF, but then again, I’ve only been here a short time. Plus I think Chengdu’s a special place, at least more so than Beijing or Shanghai. But I do know exactly what you mean when you talk of trendy boutiques. In San Francisco or New York you can walk into a store the size of a cupboard, having no idea as to the brand-name and find yourself staring at some RIDICULOUS prices!
