I paid 700 yuan for a Philips air purifier with HEPA filter that does the job just fine in my 30 sq/m bedroom running 24/7.

What model did you buy? Did you buy it from a local shop in Chengdu? And yay! Looks like I’ll be bringing my PS3 with me! 😀

Ah I see! Well my company is going to be covering my rent, I just need to figure out what the max they’ll pay lol. I’ve been a bad nerd, I haven’t played LoL or DoTA at all. Do you play? They seem like games I’d enjoy from what I’ve seen. What board games do you guys play? I’d love to come once I’m there! 😀

Good to know about the clubs! For the most part Rosetta Stone seems like a decent program. I am learning things in context, but not their actual meaning – which is kind of strange. But that’s how the program works. I hope to get a tutor or something once I’m actually in Chengdu. Bleh 10k rmb is alot >_>. I’ll shop around. Also, good to know about the PS3 too. I don’t want any trouble when I am coming in to the country. I may just leave it here in the US.

I’ll pm you Charlie! I’m trying to figure out where a good place to live would be. Someone told me tongzilin has a pretty direct subway route to where I’ll be working. I’ll be in corporate housing until I find an apartment anyway. No real rush. As far as my hobbies go I’m a big gamer. Video games, tabletop games, and conventional board games. I’m a pretty active guy as well, sports, gym, hiking. I love a good club or bar – not sure if gay ones exist in Chengdu or not. I’m looking forward to trying new food and learning more about the culture. I also plan on taking mandarin classes. I currently use Rosetta Stone.

I do have a question though, would it be easier to buy an air purifier once I get there or should I bring one with me? I lightly browsed Tao Bao and everything seemed to be priced fairly. Does customs have any issues with bringing a playstation 3 over?
