I just found out the location has changed from Mooney’s Bar to the Café Z restaurant inside the Shangri-La hotel because Mooney’s will be closed for the New Year from Feb 8th-10th.

Pickleford, these owls are quite superb and when you have 50 of them, well that’s a lot of hooters!

In English it was the “Xingrui Pretty Hotel” right next to the McDonalds.  Everyone in the hotel was evicted, not just me because I was a foreigner.

In defense of America, there’s a difference between bad service/redneckism and getting shut down by the police.  While you can get bad service anywhere, getting the doors taped shut by the police seems to be a China-specific phenomenon.

Anyway we ended up at the Liwan International Hotel and it has been great.  Really top-notch hotel and service, just in a bad location lacking any restaurants or shops.  We’re moving on to the Gao Xin district today, so I’m hoping for good luck with the next hotel.

@Rick, we are just doing the prenatal visits here and then giving birth in the US. Thanks for the info, it’s good to know for the future.

@Paul, thanks for sharing your story. I’ve never bought travel health insurance when coming to China because I always assumed that I could get patched up cheaply and 1200 RMB is much less than travel insurance for a few weeks.

Excellent, thanks for the info. 100 RMB more than last year, but it now includes all the beer I can drink? I think they will lose money on that deal 😉

Oh, and cheerleaders at the bar? Double awesome, I can’t wait to see what they have planned.

Re: pissing in the taxi, this is a strategy that works if applied correctly. If the cabbie isn’t afraid of being reported, he is afraid of having a smelly cab. Here’s a sample:

“Please take me to my destination. I really have to piss and I don’t think I can hold it long enough to wait for another taxi. I don’t want to have an accident here in your taxi, so please just drive.”

Thanks, I saw that place in a post from last year, but their web site doesn’t list the Superbowl under the “Upcoming Events”. Is it a safe assumption that they will be open that early in the morning?
