There are two pretty decent looking mens tailors in the Top City building behind Isetan. The one I used was 鸿伟样服, address 成都市锦江区小科甲巷第一城1楼20号商铺 tel 028-86665616.

I drove there myself but apparently getting a bus to Wenchuan and then renting a car and driver from there also works well. The turn off is about 20k North of Wenchuan (i.e. towards Songpan, Jiuzhai etc). Rather than go into the first road tunnel, head off to the right around the side of the hill following the signs for the resort. Before rejoining the main road you double back on yourself, cross the river and head up into the hills.

You’re going to find it pretty boring until the chairlift opens (assuming it isn’t already)

Having actually skied at both Taiziling and Xiling I’d strongly recommend Taiziling as the better option. It works out at less than half the price, is less crowded, better conditions, plus is a lot easier to get to (took us less than 2.5 hours to the slopes from the “wrong” side of Chengdu). The bunny slopes that are open are admittedly very very tame, although one would just about be OK with a few slalom poles. They are actively working on that chair, but there doesn’t seem to be an estimated completion date. Their long term plans look interesting if they actually come off.

Has anyone tried the slopes at E’mei?

The original management of the Survivor Wall have opened a new place in Suning Plaza (near Ikea and Galleria). I haven’t climbed there, although it looks like a better wall. Not much of an atmosphere when I was there, but then that whole shopping mall’s still pretty dead at the moment. The full address is 天府达到北段8号苏宁广场6楼604A号 成都生存者攀岩管 tel 85228220

The survivor climbing wall (in Tongzilin) that Charlie went to has just recently changed hands. Still seems popular at the moment, but we’ll see if that changes if they don’t keep up with the maintenance anymore. Definitely the best public bouldering wall in Chengdu though.

The wall at Chengdu University of Technology I haven’t been to since it was taken over by a private company that now charges (but at least keeps it regularly open and accessible to the public). Given that I can see the thing from my office I really should head across and check it out. 180 RMB for 10 trips seems to be the best deal if you want to visit regularly. I wasn’t that impressed by the routes, but it was nice to have a high wall to climb rather than bouldering for a change.
