If you do hit the Roman Holiday Plaza market the best day is Sunday.  Weekdays are just the regular vendors selling mostly trinkets.  Sundays people come in from all over Sichuan and you see some good stuff.  Also the established shops have good stuff but they can be pricey.  Also if you are in the area make sure you walk down what I call “Tibet Street” (some of the more veteran people can give you the actual name).  Lots of good stuff from Tibet.

I checked out the baseball field when I first got here.  It is in the northwest and was (as of last October) in reasonable shape.   It kind of reminds me of a minor league / college park that would hold about 3-4,000 people.  I am too old to play anymore (maybe senior slowpitch softball), but if you get anything together I could umpire.  Prior to moving to Chengdu I was umpiring 80-110 games a year of fast pitch softball at the rec, high school, juco and club level in Florida.   The basic rules of baseball and fastpitch softball are the same.  I would freely offer my services just to get back into the game.

Parkway is closed until the 8th.  Went there yesterday to have an infected foot looked at.  Ended up at 1st People’s emergency room. Industrialized medicine at its best, although they were very helpful.

We recently moved to Chengdu and brought our dog, a Yorkshire Terrier, with us in the cabin on a flight from San Francisco to Chengdu.  We had no problems with Customs getting the dog in.  In fact no one even asked us for her paperwork although we had all in order as outlined in China Pet Passport.  Maybe we were lucky but we have friend who brought in pets with no real problems, i.e. quarantine.

Let us know when you get a band together.  I would love to hear some country honky-tonk!   It would remind me of my visits to Austin.  Anybody here ever been to the Broken Spoke?   One of the greatest Texas honky-tonks.

I hope it lasts through the playoffs.   I only got the NFL Gamecast for the regular season and wild card round. I did not want to pay the extra $70.00 for the divisional/championship and Super Bowl (Feb 7 during Chinese New Year – out of town) rounds.

If you are looking for parks to run in you might consider living in Longfor Century City.  New buildings with their own private park, walkway around the park is approx 1/3km.   Across the road, Shi Ji Cheng Rd,  there is a big park of about 2.5 km2 with lots of pathways and Chinese versions of exercise stations.    Longfor is a little pricey but worth it.  1/2 mile from Metro Station and there are buses right outside that can take you to Tianfu Square and Tongzilin/Yulin/Wuhou districts.

Is Pizza Mandolino closed?   I googled it,  got this 3 yr old discussion, then checked out the TripAdvisor sight and it said the place was closed.
