I have a Visa card through China Merchants Bank. It’s a debit card, though, not a credit card. But since you say you just need it for use abroad and for online payments, it should be enough. It costs 20 kuai a month, since it’s considered a special service. You can get it alongside a separate UnionPay card, which is free.
I do have a residence permit, but I don’t know if this was required to open the account. They did need to take a look at my passport, of course, and there was also a 1000 kuai minimum opening deposit. The sign-up process was pretty painless, and took about 30 minutes at my branch.
I know China Merchants Bank also has a Visa/UnionPay credit card, but I have no idea if we, as foreigners, can get it.
AugustusParticipantI got here recently and I need a lot of this stuff! I mostly want a lot of the kitchen stuff, the drying rack, and maybe a few other things (coffee maker and one (or maybe both) of the floor lamps) if I can get my friend with a car to take me. I could come by and take some of it off your hands on Tuesday, if you’re available. What’s your preferred method of communication?
AugustusParticipantHey everyone! I’m new to the forums, but have been reading them for a little while now.
I live in Qingyang district, and the other day I was handed a flyer for King’s House (on Jinyang Road). The flyer is completely bilingual, but I haven’t had the opportunity to go check it out to see if anyone actually does speak English there. Has anyone heard of this place?
