For torrents, if a local person can help you, get a “Xunlei VIP” account, and then use their download app to download the torrent.  I think they cache a lot of popular torrent files.  If you are a VIP and they have the file on local cache, you get to download them at BLAZING speed – i’m talking about 1-2MB (Mega BYTE) per second.

If your VPN is DPIed, try connect to the VPN server by IP address.  My provider senvpn was blocked for a while, strangely only by Unicom, and connecting to the IP address directly did the trick.

I use Bing and Yahoo sometimes too when I’m can’t be bothered to connect to the VPN.  I think Bing has improved a lot.  At least with search engines you can change around and use what is available, not so with email (ie. Gmail!).

Try senvpn.com.  They have a free trial.  HK and Singapore servers fastest from China.

Having lived in Australia, I used to think air quality in HK is poor.  After the last 2 years in China, when I now landed in HK it is really a breath of fresh air.

Use senvpn, it’s cheaper than Astrill/Strong and quite fast!
