See you there!
hyobinParticipanti second the question. Does this card have anything to do with the Welfare Lottery? I’ve always been curious about the lottery offices and how it works here.
hyobinParticipantThis sounds awesome. DunHuang is also a beautiful, must-visit, and odd place in China. The cave is one of better preserved and shared places of historic importance I’d vouch for based on my personal experience.
How can I connect with you? Wechat?
hyobinParticipantSee this Course Outline for details
hyobinParticipantMaybe overdue here but i’m going to try:
There is an awesome game night that happens at Machu every Wednesday, I’m thinking it may be a good night to incorporate chess for those who are waiting for their turn or just want to chill.
I will be there next Wednesday to check out the game night & for a round of Chess if anyone is game.
PM me and I’ll share my WeChat
hyobinParticipantIt’s nice to see “Happy Hour” happening here in Chengdu. Now for happy hour food options… 🙂
hyobinParticipantI would recommend:
1. Uniqlo: Chunxi Road, Tianfu Guang Chang (metro accessible), Global Center (metro accessible). They usually have different t-shirt options on sale.
2. Monki: Raffles City (metro accessible) & Global Center (metro accessible). Pretty cheap, trendy, and a bit flashy option.
Hope this helps!
hyobinParticipantWe are back! Starting tomorrow we will resume our Friday out-door sale + donation drop-off (NO clothes).
PLUS, we have a lot of gently used bowls, mugs, plates, kitchenware, bedding & pillows. We plan on posting these via WeChat soon.
If you guys have any questions, please add us on WeChat or directly call me.
See you soon!

hyobinParticipantThis was a stellar day with good weather, good riding, good friends, good booze & good food. Thanks for always organizing wonderful community events, Natooke Family!
hyobinParticipantWhat’s the format of this event? Will there be an authority/sexpert on the subject attending and fielding questions, or will it be an open conversation?
Thanks for your questions!
Sexperts: Yes! We will have three sexperts: Chinese, Australian, and American. They come from very different backgrounds approaching sex-education.
Chinese sexpert: his personal story of being HIV positive has led him to advocate and organize community support groups, educational workshops, and actively sharing and providing better information regarding safe/healthy sex
Australian sexpert: approaching from a more creative and personal perspective on preparing to publish a book on things about sex you wish you knew but didn’t from a girl/woman’s perspective and for girls/women
American sexpert: is a Fulbright Research Scholar approaching sex-education from a public health perspective
Format: we structure every workshop in the same way. Our experts and audience sit amongst one another and engage in open-discussion & interactive learning/sharing.
Hope this response answers many of your questions. For further detail, come to the workshop and find out for yourself, you won’t regret it 🙂
Thanks for your interests & please keep them coming!
See you Friday.
hyobinParticipantThere are Chess training schools that teach all age group on how to play and hold tournaments within. Are you looking just to play to keep your skills fresh? I’d be up for casual chess match over cold ones if interested!
I would be down for this also. I’m a casual player who hasn’t played much in a few years.
let’s make it happen then 🙂 will post time ideas here soon.
ALSO, fun perhaps dojo game feature idea here: http://www.webtender.com/handbook/games/beerchess.game
hyobinParticipantHi, I’ll be in Chengdu for 2 months and I was wondering if anyone knows about any local chess centers or clubs. Any information is appreciated! mah9122

hyobinParticipantI run a second hand shop in Chengdu. If at the end of your sale, you have items left unsold and need to get rid of them, contact me via wechat: hyobinsung. We do pick-ups.
Thanks,
Hyobin
hyobinParticipantI’m going to repeat this one again and maybe suggest even hosting an informal meet-up somewhere with wifi if people are interested in helping with mapping.
@Dan is this sort of a meet-up something you are interested in helping organize for folks in Chengdu can come together for a few hours and get some work done? This is really a great way to aid relief efforts on the ground through using internet and can actually provide tangible changes!
hyobinParticipantOne more on how technology is being used for relief efforts:
hyobinParticipant@Dan, thanks for sharing.
Other things to consider when responding to crisis is to be mindful of conditions on the ground, dignity of human beings, and to really think about what is most needed and not just what “I” think or can do to “help”. There are better, more effective, and non-traditional ways to provide support and show solidarity to those surviving and rebuilding.
I found below two links really mindful and helpful:
1. Importance of transparency in organizations you choose to donate to / support, virtual volunteering is an important thing too, and to think LOCAL: https://storify.com/jeneambrose/want-to-help-in-nepal
2. Sharing good and reliable information is crucial and educating yourself about what’s happening is a must. this site is doing just that: http://www.ushahidi.com/2015/04/25/supporting-online-volunteer-response-to-the-nepal-earthquake/
hyobinParticipantNeato on infographic!
In my opinion there is a big difference in learning Chinese based on textbook/classroom learning to day-to-day interaction to personalized lessons. I think it depends on your level, commitment level, purpose of learning (Do you only need basic day-to-day spoken language skills? professional language both writing & spoken? be able to write? Etc,.)
Based on my 5 years of learning Chinese now, my needs have changed as with my methods. I have to agree technology doesn’t hurt when it comes to efficiency & 24/7 access you have where as a textbook based learning is so limited in not just time but rigidity in structure and often times being far fetched from average person’s day to day experience living/ working in China.
hyobinParticipantThanks for posting. I’ll share it among my network. Please keep us informed on ways we can continue to support him in the future, too.
hyobinParticipantawesomeness Niklas! one of your many ideas.
i know organic farms in sichuan send bi-weekly fresh produce to your door. will dig up their info and post it here.
it’s such a cool model too i have a few friends back in the US doing it for niche markets: male beauty products, monthly whiskey tasting in bottles mailed to your door, eco-friendly product samples, etc.
it would be neat to see products expats want in China but think there aren’t Chinese substitutes to actually find those substitutes. Cheaper price, local products, increase market knowledge of how you can pretty much find everything here without having to pay extra to get the comforts of home.
